Amen.
[Welcome]
Good morning PW. Welcome to the 2nd Worship Service of 2025. Let us turn to our neighbors and greet them by saying this. 3)“God is with you.” Amen. I truly hope that God is with you all throughout 2025 and that God will bless you with his strengths. Today we are continuing on the series 4)“The Happy Days.” We will be going through how we deal with the emotions in the eyes of God and today, we’re learning how God feels about our emotions.
[Sermon]
As I was preparing for today’s message, I really wanted to know 5)Jesus’ MBTI? You know, the personality test. I know it is very random, I know we can’t actually know what type he was, but it was a fun thing to think about. So, I started to search through the web, and apparently there were quite a few people who had the same curiosity. And according to their own logic and analysis of Jesus in the bible, these three types were the most prevalent type. They are 6)INFJ, ENFJ, INFP.
7)For INFJ, it is someone who has a goal or a vision in life. They are warm and kind to others. So if we think about Jesus, he does fit into this type. Jesus knew his calling even when he was young, and he spent a lot of time teaching his disciples and healed his followers.
8)For ENFJ, it is someone who likes to communicate and work with others. They inspire people. Jesus, what did he do? He interacted with so many people, and he shared the love of God to them.
9)For INFP, it is someone who lives according to their beliefs and values. They have creative thoughts. Jesus, he sacrificed his life for his own faith and righteousness. And declared the kingdom of God.
In some sense they all show who Jesus is, we can see his character in these types. But as I was looking through different blog posts about this topic I came across a really cringe post. It said that, 10)“Jesus is a perfect God, and fully human. His character and actions exceeds time, culture and the limitation of human kind. But, through the bible we can understand a part of Jesus’ Character in through the bible.”
I saw this post and I thought, “Oh man, this guy took out the fun of this.” I was going stop reading it but I did anyway, He continues on and says. 11)“Jesus deeply connected with people, empathizing with their pain and joy, reflecting a balance between extroversion (E) and introversion (I). Additionally, Jesus taught with wisdom and understanding, conveying profound truths through parables, embodying both intuitive (N) and sensing (S) traits. He followed God’s will, practicing love and justice, demonstrating characteristics of both feeling (F) and thinking (T). Finally, Jesus carried out His ministry systematically and orderly according to God’s plan, yet adapted flexibly to situations. This showcases a harmony between judging (J) and perceiving (P) tendencies.”
He is perfect. That’s right, Jesus as God, he can’t be denied. As human as a perfect human being, he is not someone who has bipolar but actually a perfectly balance person where he adapts to all situation in the right way. And because of that he is perfect and because he knows everything and feels all things, he is fit to be our savior.
Now, the reason I was thinking about this whole Jesus’ MBTI is because, I thought Jesus was a F reading today’s scripture. So let’s read today’s scripture one more time. On the count of 3. 1, 2, 3.
John 11:33–35 (NIV)
12)33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
34 “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied.
35 Jesus wept.
What is Jesus doing? He is crying. Let’s bring in a bit of context here. In a town called Bethany which is North of Jerusalem. It is the place where Jesus was baptized and where he called his first disciples and started his ministry. There lived Lazarus, Mary and Martha and they were really close with Jesus. One day, Lazarus, he got sick and he died. Because of Lazarus’ death, his sisters Mary and Martha were sad and seeing them sad, Jesus goes and comforts them. As a perfect human with feelings, he feels the sadness there and he comforts the two sisters.
Now, if I was Jesus with my character, I would say, “Stop crying, I’m here, I will raise him from the grave.” Typical thinkers answers. But Jesus instead of doing this, he comforts those who are weeping. He sympathizes with them cries and feels their pain. Why? That is the rightful thing to do when you see a sad person. Don’t think or do anything, but just feel with them. We didn’t read what happens next, but Jesus after sympathizing with Mary and Martha he raises Lazarus from the dead. That’s who Jesus is. Jesus, he sympathizes. For the problems we have in our hearts, that is important to him as much as solving the realistic problems we have in our lives.
I am person, who barely cries. I cry when I physically get hurt, but I don’t really cry. But on my wedding day, I was crying like a open tap. My wife, she didn’t cry, but when I faced my parents to say thanks for everything they did for me, 13)I couldn’t keep it in me and I bursted into tears. One of the employee of the wedding hall, she came up to me and said, “I’ve been doing this job for over 20 years and you are the 3rd Groom that cried like how you cried today.” But the reason I cried like that, it was because, as I saw my parents faces all the troubles and hardships that our family went through came into my head like a flashback. From the time I had to go to Australia after bankruptcy. The struggles that my parents went through as a 1st Gen immigrant. Cleaning toilets, working blue collar jobs to put food on the table. The deportation. All sorts of troubles in Korea and etc. I knew that they did it so I could have a proper education. Even before the wedding, because Australia wouldn’t open up their borders because of COVID, we weren’t even sure that they could come to the wedding or not. And to see my parents sitting down and congratulating me on starting my own family, it was not just touching but more of feeling sorry. I tried to keep it in but I just couldn’t. My dad he did not budge, but my mother seeing me cry, she also bursted into tears and said, 14)“아들 울지마.” “John, don’t cry.” This is sort of the comforting that Jesus did to the two sisters. Crying with them, sharing their pain. That is what he did. And guys he is still comforting us too.
15)Today, through the scripture, Jesus is saying, I am with you all to comfort you. No matter how Good or How bad, How Sad, how happy you may be, I am here to comfort you. I’m ready to laugh when you are happy, I am here to comfort you when you are worn out, I am here with you to cheer you on when you are in your trials and I am here with you to cry with you when you are sad. I am with you in all your emotions. For Jesus is a Sympathetic God.
Dear Power Wave. What are you feeling now? What is your emotions? But in that emotion, Jesus is right next to you and feeling the same way. He is happy with you, he is sad, he is overwhelmed with you and is ready to comfort you. So all we need to do is turn to Jesus and seek him. Then he is going to comfort us for he knows us and and wants us to be in peace. So no matter where your emotions are at in your life, let’s live that feeling with God for he is going to be sympathetic.
Guys, lets take this time to pray. When we pray, I want all of us to turn to Jesus. Jesus, I feel these feelings now. I turn to you and as you have comforted Mary and Martha, comfort me too. At this time with our voices, let us pray to God.
