Pauls Consternation

Titus was in Corinth. He was supposed to bring news of the church there and meet Paul in Troas, But he was not there.
We do not know why Titus was delayed. This make me think. what are some things that slow us down? It may have been the Lord, it was not have been Titus’s fault. and I hope he will forgive me accusing him of the possibility of these things, but it is still possible.
I talked with men who I trusted, Men who know about missions, and asked them what the main reasons they saw missionaries not getting to the field. I noticed that what they said goes hand in hand with what Jesus saw.

Luke 14:25–30 (KJV 1900)

And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

Luke 9:57–62 (KJV 1900)

And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Parents and Pastors

Luke 14:25-30.

Luke 9:59-60.

(Wiersby states that his father was not dead, but that he wanted to wait until his father had passed before leaving him)
How many Christians has God called, but they would not leave home?
The Hatred here is not an emotion, but a preference.
Our understanding of this verse hinges on the meaning of the word hate and how it is used in this verse.
- Websters 1828 Dictionary defines "hate" as follows: "In scripture, it signifies to love less."
- David Sorenson gives the following definition. "A relative preference for one thing (or person) over another."
- All natural loves and the love of self, and of life, must be subordinate to our love to Him who must be first in our life." (Lockyer)
- We must understand the Jewish idiom of love and hate. While to us these are manifestations of the emotion, in scripture these refer to a decision of the will. Thus loving and hating are manifestations of our choice. When Christ demanded that one hate those to whom he is bound by the closest of blood ties, He was not speaking in the area of emotions but in the area of the will. A disciple must make a choice and submit to the authority of Christ rather than to the authority of the family headship. (Pentecost)
- But if natural love and home ties come between a man and Christ, he must reevaluate his love. Our love for Christ must be so strong that it overrules all other loves." (Phillips)
Parents, do not be the reason someone in “Troas” is waiting for your baby boy or girl. From a young age, teach them to be submissive to the Lords will, more then your own. Do this by being an example. If your kid sees you putting God first, they will learn the same.
I am not a parent, but I grew up with a family who emphasized missions. My folks would read missionary biographies to us. TEACH YOUR KID MISSIONS. Show them that you will be supportive of them if the Lord calls them to the country of Afghanistan.
Pastors are another BIG deal maker/breaker for missions. I have seen Pastors who are more worried about the fact they will loose a faithful family if the Lord calls them to missions. It wont be the Christian you see once a month that gets called… Pastors, teach your church that the Lords will is the most important thing for them to do. Church members
Paul was a good example in this

2 Timothy 4:1–5 (KJV 1900)

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
It all boils down to them, but do not set them up for failure. Look at Samual, Look at the roll his mother and father had in his service to the Lord.
