This morning we are going to go over the 104 Psalm. It is an incredible passage. It mirrors in part the creation of it all Pastor went over in Genesis focusing solely on the Creator.
That is something to me as a Christian that is easy to acknowledge. That God is the Creator of all things. That God is the complete sustainer of life. I know that God the Son is the author and finisher of my faith [Hebrews 12:2 ] . He is our salvation. I read the Bible, I pray to Him, I come to church and praise Him, but as I read this Psalm I had to ask myself “ How often do I stop and meditate on the magnificence of God. How often do I actually stop and reflect on the big picture look at all that is around me. Not just scenery but everything the world entails. What man has been capable to event as mini creators , created in the image of God. From ribs to ice tea, and from love and compassion. Everything thing Good God is the the creator of it all , and He knows me and you by name.
The New King James Version Psalm 104
Bless the LORD, O my soul!
O LORD my God, You are very great
My Father in Heaven Hallowed be your name. This is also Holy be your name , sacred, separate from all else. God, the Great I Am
This is where it has to start knowing that God is God. Not a god. God. If you want your soul to bless Him you have to acknowledge Him and who He is.
Psalm 104:1–4 (NKJV)
You are clothed with honor and majesty,
Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.
For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
Honor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
. He is clothed with majesty and splendor because He is majesty and splendor
God wraps Himself in light because He is light
1john1:5
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
God is light . He has to be because He gives life to all living things. There has to be light , light is good and all good things come from God.
Psalm 104:2–4 (NKJV)
Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.
He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters,
Who makes the clouds His chariot,
Who walks on the wings of the wind,
Who makes His angels spirits,
His ministers a flame of fire.
Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
Creator of the heavens. Pastor also talked about this and actually played a video one night about the heavens and how vast they are. Its not just the stars that you see . Its galaxies far far away. He is the creator and controller of all of it. There is no way to put that into a human perspective. Even if you were a scientist that knew everything that man can possibly know about the heavens. Take that limited knowledge and then figure out how God just spoke it in to existence and now controls it all . Including Heaven where He resides above it all. Don’t focus on why focus on that He does.
He who builds His layers in the sky,
And has founded His strata in the earth;
Who calls for the waters of the sea,
And pours them out on the face of the earth—
The Lord is His name.
He controls the Angels because He created them even Lucifer and the ones He cast out of Heaven they have no power over Him. Wow that's the God we serve.
You who laid the foundations of the earth,
So that it should not be moved forever,
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters stood above the mountains.
At Your rebuke they fled;
At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.
They went up over the mountains;
They went down into the valleys,
To the place which You founded for them.
You have set a boundary that they may not pass over,
That they may not return to cover the earth.
The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.
This also sounds a lot like the account of the flood
And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered. The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered.
And the waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased.
Just like when Jesus was in the boat with His disciples God made the command and the water listened. God set up boundary's for it and that is where it is.
God has put the earth on an unmovable foundation that cant be moved He controls the wind the stars the water . He makes the clouds His chariot He walks on the wind. Controls the angels and has promised those who believe in His son eternal life. What could there be to fear or worry about if your faith is in God.
He sends the springs into the valleys;
They flow among the hills.
They give drink to every beast of the field;
The wild donkeys quench their thirst.
By them the birds of the heavens have their home;
They sing among the branches.
He waters the hills from His upper chambers;
The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works.
He has set all of this up perfectly to provide for His creation. This psalmist was limited to the world he knew and could see this, how much more should we see all of this now. We have gotten so intelligent that we all need to figure out the difficult instead of seeing the simple. I guess if you are trying to figure out away to not believe in a creator try to make things so complex that the only sense it makes is to others that are trying not to worship a creator. Maybe it feeds an ego that makes people there own Gods. It always comes down to pride doesn't it.
I watched a show one day about these little animals in the desert, rodents and lizards can get all the water the need from the morning dew on some of the desert plants. Some can get all they need from what they eat. It doesn’t matter where things live they are His creation and He provides for them. And at times when He does allow for things to happen that we don’t understand it is always about the much larger picture.
He takes care of the donkey , the creepy crawlies, the snake and the birds of the air He provides for all of them.
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.
He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,
And vegetation for the service of man,
That he may bring forth food from the earth,
And wine that makes glad the heart of man,
Oil to make his face shine,
And bread which strengthens man’s heart.
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the third day.
This is such an awesome passage here. God provides us everything we need to sustain ourselves and more . Things simply for our pleasure
He gave us these things and gave us the ability to do many things with them. Opposable thumbs an all. We are to cultivate and be good stewards of Gods creation. I will challenge anyone to find a scripture in the Bible encouraging people to be lazy.
He gives us cattle. He provides the water and the grass . The corn. He provides seeds to plant and water for them to grow. He gave us the ability to make tools to make are labor easier.
He gave us grapes to make wine and grain to make bread , He gave us olives to make oil with. All for our enjoyment. not over indulgence. For our pleasure to make us happy. He doesn’t expect all work an no play.
To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
The trees of the Lord are full of sap,
The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
Where the birds make their nests;
The stork has her home in the fir trees.
The high hills are for the wild goats;
The cliffs are a refuge for the rock badgers.
Think of all the different tree’s there are just around here. Trees that no one planted. God just provided for us. There is Hickory for smoking meet, Hedge to build fence. Walnut to make furniture and provide food for us and animals. Ash and oak for heat. and feed for wildlife. They are all right here for us . A gift from God. They provide shelter for us and birds as do the rocks and different landscapes all teaming with life . Below the ground ,on the land in the water and all for us to enjoy and all for God to look down and see and admire His creation. It is all so mind blowing to me. If you haven't for awhile, take time to look at it. The ice and snow in the trees the other day and how beautiful it was. All created by God.
He appointed the moon for seasons;
The sun knows its going down.
You make darkness, and it is night,
In which all the beasts of the forest creep about.
The young lions roar after their prey,
And seek their food from God.
When the sun rises, they gather together
And lie down in their dens.
Man goes out to his work
And to his labor until the evening.
Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
God created the sun and the moon. He controls the seasons. I'm sure all of you will like this, but in His time winter will turn into spring and this snow will put moisture in the ground to bring grass back. Its such an intricate world. We don't have to figure it all out God has it under control. We know after winter is spring and then comes summer. Appreciate the magnificence of it all. We can’t change it we don’t have the power . Its Gods plan just enjoy being a part of it.
In Isreal and other places the Lions came out at night to feed. God provided them with their pray and the pray with the grass . There will come a day in Gods timing when the Lion will eat straw with His pray .
isa11:6-7
“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.
The cow and the bear shall graze;
Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
I guess at that time it will no longer be pray
Then the Lion lays down and man gets the light of the day to do his work. When I was working nights on road jobs it made everything harder even with artificial light it could never take the place of the light of the sun.
psalm104:24
O Lord, how manifold are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all.
The earth is full of Your possessions—
The psalmist is taking a moment to praise the Lord. How can you not especially at this moment when he is taking time to reflect on God creation. All in perfect timing with one another. We can be in awe of Elon Musk wealth but God owns it all . How much more should we be in awe of Him
psalm 104:25-26
This great and wide sea,
In which are innumerable teeming things,
Living things both small and great.
There the ships sail about;
There is that Leviathan
Which You have made to play there.
Now the psalmist goes to the sea. In his ancient world he would be talking about the Mediterranean. He was amazed by God about the sea now that we know so much more people should be at the very least ever bit as excited about it as this man is. I can still remember the first time I saw the ocean I was so excited it was amazing to me . We should never loose that excitement about Gods creation but the Creator that is the true magnificence of it all. We see pictures that artist draw that are amazing. I'm very amazed by that talent because I don’t possess it at all. How someone can take a blank peace of paper and turn it in to a beautiful work of art. They are painting Gods creation that He created from nothing.
Got away from myself for a minute. He is talking about all the creatures that are in the ocean. From a starfish to a Leviathan. We are not sure what a Leviathan was are still is but it was a large creature. Think about the ocean from the animals that live in the deepest depths to the shells on the beach it is crazy the diversity of the ocean. The ships out there. I don’t know how many of you have ever been in the open see but it makes you realize how small you are.
These all wait for You,
That You may give them their food in due season.
What You give them they gather in;
You open Your hand, they are filled with good.
You hide Your face, they are troubled;
You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the earth.
Genesis 1:29–30 (NKJV)
And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.
God supplies for all our needs and all the animal kingdoms needs. Nothing is here by accident and nothing can exist without the hand of God. He is the provider of all things including the breath in every living creatures lungs. When God brings famine and drought on the earth people get scared. When He takes the breath from your lungs you die. Through His spirit life will continue on. When one generation is gone a new one is born and it is all under Gods control. Life is under Gods control . Eternal life is under Gods control. Just like He provides for us . He grows the plants we have to care for them in gather them, He also gives us a part of our salvation a choice to make. If you haven't made that choice yet, meditate on God see the truth and make that choice.
May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
May the Lord rejoice in His works.
He looks on the earth, and it trembles;
He touches the hills, and they smoke.
Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Good saw what He had created and it was good. He rejoiced in it. The psalmist was so caught up He said let the Glory of the Lord endure for ever and it will and I don't know about you but I want to be a part of it.
He looks on the earth and it trembles
The mountains saw You and trembled;
The overflowing of the water passed by.
The deep uttered its voice,
And lifted its hands on high.
He touches the hills and they smoke
Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
May my meditation be sweet to Him;
I will be glad in the Lord.
The psalmist after spending this time reflecting on Gods creation makes a declaration. He says I will sing to the Lord as long as I live . I will sing praise to my God. Doesn’t a God that created everything you see around you , everything you need the plants need animals, the sun. Does’t He deserve are praise? Above all else creation is the reason to warship God. Without it there would be no need for salvation.
There is a reason why creation is attacked so much. Its a great attack of the devil because without it all else is void. Praise God for creation.
Then he says may my meditation be sweet to Him. He is saying I want even my thoughts to be sweet to you. He is praising God.
May sinners be consumed from the earth,
And the wicked be no more.
Bless the Lord, O my soul!

This part my seem really harsh from are perspective, but the Jews even believe Judgement is good and a gift from God, and it is.
As we look at how amazing Gods creation is we know man has corrupted it. With the sin of man there is evil in the world. I think we can all see that.
There is going to be a day when all that is gone
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Gods not done there is more to come and sin will be removed from the earth. The unsaved sinner will be put into outer darkness. That’s why we have to spread the Gospel. Its not Gods desire
2peter3:9-13
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
Christians have a commission. We are supposed to spread the gospel. People that have not excepted Christ have a chose the time for both is now.
Then the psalmist closes with praise, bless the Lord ,O my soul! Praise the Lord. Hallelujah
