Review of the events that lead up to the time of Elijah.
Solomon replaced David as King. His wives turned his heart away from God. 1 Kings 11:6
6 So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and did not wholly follow the Lord, as David his father had done.
2. As a result the kingdom divided. The Northern 10 tribes followed Jeroboam, Solomon’s slave master.
- False worship with idols, pagan altars, false priests and even false feasts. After a series of wicked kings , and and then the kingship of his son, Nadab who followed in his footsteps. 1 Kings 15:26
26 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin which he made Israel to sin.
There were a series of more kings who followed in the path of wickedness. Now the stage is set for Ahab, the reigning king during the prophetic ministry of Elijah.
Elijah was called of God to minister to the northern ten tribes of Israel during the early years of the divided kingdom.
Through all the kings and disobedience, God had not forgotten His people in the Northern Kingdom. He faithfully sent truth to them through the prophet Elijah.
