Resting in His Timing: The Power of Patience

Summary: The theme today explores the biblical idea of patience, reflecting on God's timing and faithfulness even amid waiting and trials.
Teaching: - understanding patience as a spiritual discipline
- Deeper faith
-Depending on God.
-waiting on the Lord
- Strength from His promises
-knowing his plans are perfect.
How this passage could point to Christ: Throughout Scripture, Christ exemplifies perfect patience through His ministry and redemptive work. His waiting upon the Father and His enduring love for humanity serve as the ultimate model for believers navigating their own times of waiting.
Lets look into the text:
James 1:2–4 “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”
How was James Patient?
or we can look at:
Romans 5:3–5 “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”

1. Self Control and Discipline Produces Patience

One of the biggest things that comes to mind for me is spoken about in James when thinking about self control. Lets look at:
James 3:6 “And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.”
The reason I bring this passage up is because it is the first thing that can get us in trouble and away from the goals of what God has for us. I have to pray about this everyday of my life.
If we can live in peace with our speech and or thought process in general, I believe we will better align with Gods will.
Its scary to think, a careless speech can render a person unclean before God.

2. Patience Builds Hope

The perfect example of this patience is God himself. God’s patience with us knows no ends or limits. He is constantly delaying his judgement and punishment of people who sin or break the law because he wants them to repent of their sins and come to him. Isnt that the perfect father? Waits for you regardless of the wrong doing. His patience is for our REPENTANCE
Lets look at:
Romans 2:4 “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?”
and Romans 3:25 “For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,”
This delivers HOPE because we know God has been true in the beginning and still true today. He is showing his patience to bring as many people towards him as possible and you can have hope that he has NEVER been defeated and never will. He is waiting for you in the next life and is preparing for you. Isn’t little bit of patience a small request?
What can be going on today for you that is testing you pateince?
We all have trails and tribulations. But lets find comfort on those in the bible that came before us and developed patience to stay in the fight and focus on the lord Jesus. For Example:
Joseph - Sold in Salvery
Abraham and Isaac- God tells him not to sacrifice his son
Job- Loses everything and is blameless and upright because he feared god. Gets blessed
These are just some of the many we can look at for todays message. But let us not forget their patience lead to renewed hope and blessings from above. Not in thier timing but in GODS and thats what made it so great.
Patience in God will lead to winning the race always and forever. Weather its in 2025 or beyond.
I want to take a second to reflect on the overall arch of each of our lifes. The ups and downs. I figure it wouldn’t be a reach to say we have experienced much more blessings then trails. If you are one of the few that can’t see that I want to remind you of something. I have been reading a book by Max Lucado and uses the illistration of a string and a marker, ok let me explain:
MAX LUCADO EXAMPLE (STRING AND MARKER)
You see? This life isnt much when we truly think about our next and final life. Run the race with patience and eyes on god.
Lastly, I want to encourage you with passage from Solomon, son of David, King of Isreal:
Proverbs 3:1–12 “My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine. My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you. For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child”
Thank you very one, lets pray.
