The fruit of the Spirit is the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Galatians 4:19: “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,”
1 Corinthians 1:29–31“That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” :
2 Corinthians 4:10–12 “Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you.” :
A Divine Distinction- "But"
A Divine Distinction- "But"
Verse 13- Grace, not used for self for but service.
5:1- Liberty- you are welcomed, if you like, by the deeds of the law and flesh to obtain the righteousness of Jesus Christ. I'm not going back! That law was a schoolmaster, hired help to train up a man's children, but we have grown up and are married to Jesus. He is my Saviour! I'm not going back to the law.
I'm also not going back to the flesh. We have here this spiritual struggle, the struggle between right and wrong, evil and righteousness, God and Satan, flesh and spirit.
Here, Matthew 6:24 rings powerfully true, No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.
Under the gospel we are enfranchised, we are brought into a state of liberty, wherein we are freed from the yoke of the ceremonial law and from the curse of the moral law; so that we are no longer tied to the observance of the one, nor tied up to the rigour of the other, which curses every one that continues not in all things written therein to do them, Gal_3:10. 2. We owe this liberty to Jesus Christ. It is he who has made us free; by his merits he has satisfied the demands of the broken law, and by his authority as a king he has discharged us from the obligation of those carnal ordinances which were imposed on the Jews.
Jesus Christ has set us free...free to do His will...free to be a bondslave...one set free...but willingly returns to the feet of the liberator to serve with life and limb.
And watch...it is not earn these graces BY WALKING IN THE SPIRIT...it is just be who you are and your fruit will reveal who/what you are or are not in Christ Jesus.
A Powerful Prism- "The Fruit"
A Powerful Prism- "The Fruit"
9 flavors of the same fruit
The splitting up of white light into seven colors on passing through a transparent medium like a glass prism is called a ‘Dispersion of white light’. The band of seven colors formed on a white screen, when a beam of white light is passed through a glass prism, is called a spectrum of white light.
The formation of spectrum of seven colors shows that white light is a mixture of seven colors (or seven colored light). The effect of transparent medium (like glass prism) is only to separate the seven colors of white light.
The Bible says, "God is light and in Him is no darkness at all." In Him is all color, all light. And when God touches your life, your body becomes the medium, the prism, not of inner light...not of a spark of divinity...not a peculiar inner goodness...but the life and light of God shining through us!
ILL- He that gets the Son gets it all!!!!!
A Sanctifying Spirit- "of the Spirit is"
A Sanctifying Spirit- "of the Spirit is"
In context, it is the need of God's Spirit clearly seen here.
First, for salvation- John 3
What was He sent to do?
· to teach us- John 14:26- because man's philosophies are unscriptural
· to guide us- John 16:13- because man's methods are untrustworthy
· to convince us- John 16:8-
of sin- because they believe not
of righteousness- because I go to my Father
of judgment- because the prince of the world is judged
· to point us to Christ- John 16:13-14- because mankind us unsaved
· to empower us- Acts 1:8, II Timothy 3:5- because man's religion is utterly faulty
We need the Spirit of God at work in our life!
Luke 11:13: “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”
We need the Spirit that cries, "That Him!"
For sanctification
We have "spiritualized" our spiritual ineptitude, in that we are content to exhibit a few of these divine attributes and leave the others off. We are poor in that we have fraudulent or secondary quality fruit and that we have accomplished them in the energy of the flesh.
If 5:24 be true, the fruit of the Spirit is possibly only with the life of God activated in us.
Ephesians 4:17-20
New Testament theology suggests that churches were not always full-
· Corinth- not full of maturity or love
· Philippians- unity
· Ephesus- knowledge of God's will
· Galatians- truth
· Thessalonica- hope and security
· Laodicea- 1st love to Christ
Ephesians 3:19- filled with all the fulness of God- ILL- filled with the fulness of the ocean-
Romans 15:13, 19
Everybody knows that one of the hopes of peace lies in the bankrupt condition of the nation which is likely to go to war, for if it is short of supplies, if it cannot pay its debts, if it cannot furnish the material for war, then it will not be likely to court a conflict. A country must be strong in internal resources before it can wisely venture upon foreign wars. Thus is it in the great battle of the Truth of God—a poor starving Church cannot combat the devil and his armies.
Unless the Church is, herself, rich in the things of God and strong with Divine energy, she will generally cease to be aggressive and will content herself with going on with the regular routine of Christian work, crying, “Peace! Peace!” where peace should not be.
