For this semester or what ever you want to call it
We will look at the Gospel
What is the Gospel?
It is a church word we have heard and we use and we like to talk about sharing the Gospel
But before you and I can share the Gospel what is the Gospel
10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
The Gospel message is that Jesus came to save those who are lost
Gospel means good news and the good news is that Jesus came to save the lost
Jesus loves you and Jesus saves are some quick references to the Gospel Message
Those are the messages that catch the attention in hopes of further conversation
But the Good News that is running through the Bible is that Jesus came to save those who are lost
For you and I to better understand that we need to look at how that happened
How did Jesus do that
21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
For us to understand the fact that Jesus came we need to know and better understand that God the Father made Jesus who had not ever sinned to become sin in your place and in my place
It is as if Jesus and us switched places
Jesus was the righteous and we were not and Jesus went to the cross to die in our place to take on our sin and the punishment for that sin
We have talked a lot about The Gospel
We have seen in the last few weeks in Big church how we have finished our Romans series that the Gospel was the most important thing for Paul for the church in Rome
And we said it would be the most important thing for Maranatha Baptist Fellowship
You and I need to understand first what the Gospel is and we have
We have looked at how Jesus did that
How He saved us
Jesus took our place took our sin and our punishment
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Jesus did that because of His love for us
Guys this is the basic of our faith that you and I need to know so that we can share that
To know that Jesus came to seek and save the lost
That Jesus did that by taking our place taking our sin and our punishment
To know that Jesus did that because of His great love for us
Should give us a passion to share that with others
We talk about a lot here at church about evangelism and sharing the Gospel
but do you know why?
Well Because we are commanded to
We are encouraged to
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Jesus tells the disciples to go
Jesus tells us to go to the nations
We are to share the Gospel with the nations
We are to share the Gospel with those who don’t know about Jesus
That is why we talk so much about sharing the Gospel because we have been commanded by God to do that
And we want to be obedient to God
Remember is this up down relationship isn’t good then don’t expect this side to side relationship and the up down relationship is dependant on you being obedient or not
That is why we spend so much time talking and training on how to share the Gospel
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Again we are called and commanded to go out into the world and share with people the Gospel Message
The Gospel if you can remember is that Jesus came to save those who are lost
Jesus took your place, Jesus took your sin and your punishment of sin so you didn’t have to
Jesus did that because He loves you so much
That is what we share with people because we have been commanded to share that with people
8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
Finally maybe you are nervous about what to say or scared
Jesus puts that to rest
with explaining that as we go out to share the Gospel and become witnesses of what Jesus has done in our own lives that we have the power of the Holy Spirit living inside us
