What do I need to know?

God designed us to be in community
The best life is found in community
Acts 2:42–47 ESV
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Why do I care?

Biblical Community is God’s design for our lives and God’s design is the way to a fruitful life.

What do I do?

Prioritize finding and remaining in a Biblical Community. Come back next week we will talk more about what a Biblical Community looks like.

Intro

When I was in middle school an high school I was a bit of a friend-group floater.
I never had a consistent group of people that I felt like were really my people.
And I never really felt included in anybody’s friend group. i was always the outsider.
When I sat at lunch with different groups I always felt kind of out of place and they would talk about how they all hung out as a group, but I was never invited.
So I just kind of bounced from group to group and I never felt like I belonged.

Transition

I think a lot of you can relate to what I just shared at one point in your life.
Maybe you were the new kid or you had a falling out with your closest friends and you lost the people that were around you.
Well I think this feeling of loneliness that we’ve all experienced at one time or another, actually tells us a lot about who we are and how God designed us.
If you think about it, it’s pretty much universal that people do not like to be alone in life.
Even if you’re an introvert and you like to spend time alone, you still need to have people in your life that you know love and care about you.
We all need community, and we can actually find this truth in the Bible.

Scripture

Genesis 2:18 ESV
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
Now this verse is coming straight from the beginning of humanity. If you’re familiar with the story God created the world and everything in it in 6 days. Then on the sixth day after He created humans he says, “It is not good that man is alone.”
After He creates us the first thing God says about us is we need to be with other people. We should not be alone.
This is a really simple idea, but it is so important for us to look at because community is not just for some people or like a “you’re lucky if you find it” type of thing.
Community is a need that we all have because God designed us that way.

Transition

So what you need to know today is that God designed you to be in community or in real and personal relationships with other people.
But community is not just about being around other people. You can have all the friends in the world and still be lonely and you can still not experience community.

Application

But today you need to know two things about biblical community
1. it is about doing life together with other believers not just going to church together, but actually doing life together.
2. The best life is found in community. You need it and you will love being in it.
So prioritize finding and remaining in a Biblical Community. Maybe thats here at the grove, but don’t just show up and listen because your parents make you. Invest in your relationships and be honest in group.
Small groups are an amazing opportunity for you to have community with the people around you. If you use this time to mess around or tell jokes you are losing an opportunity to experience something amazing.
Instead be honest and vulnerable and take it seriously because that’s what this space is designed for. We want y’all to be able to experience life in community.
And come back next week so you can learn more about what a Biblical Community looks like.
