Scripture:

Judges 6:11–14 NKJV
11 Now the Angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. 12 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!” 13 Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.” 14 Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”

Opening Question

I need 5 people. If you were able to change one thing in the world what would it be? What would you do tomorrow if you knew you could not fail?

Highlights

Gideon was living among a lost and failing the generation. The enemy was winning because Israel had forgotten about God.
For seven years the Midianites had terrorized and bullied Israel
Gideon was a coward. He was the weakest man of the weakest tribe of Israel.
God used him to tear down the altars of the false God Baal
A. It was and altar that belonged to his Father
B. It was an action that could prove fatal.
When was a time when you had to go against the crowd to do honor God?
God had allowed Israel to be enslaved because they had not torn down their altars.
When can’t pretend we don’t see sin and it not affect us!

I. God Sight goes further than your situation

God calls Gideon a man of Valor while he was still
2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Deuteronomy 7:6–8 NKJV
6 “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. 7 The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; 8 but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
