Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
14 Seguid la paz con todos, y la santidad, sin la cual nadie verá al Señor:
15 Mirando bien que ninguno se aparte de la gracia de Dios, que ninguna raíz de amargura brotando os impida, y por ella muchos sean contaminados;
According to this, two things are required by God to see Him:
Following peace with all men
Holiness
It makes sense that we should be a people of peace (not pacifist) and that we know and understand what holiness is.
This is a great concern as a pastor because my experience is many do not have a biblical understanding of holiness.
¡La Escritura es lo único que importa! Scripture is all that matters!
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
Entendiendo primero esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de particular interpretación;

As always, opinion does not matter!

What does the bible say?
Entonces la pregunta de hoy es ¿qué es la santidad?
The question for today is, what is holiness?
Synonyms of holiness: - Sinónimos de santidad:
Pure - Puro
Consecrated - Consagrado
Sacred - Sagrado
Virtuous - Virtuoso
Righteous - Justo
What is holiness? - ¿Qué es la santidad?
Dios establece. Ningún hombre puede cambiarlo.
God sets/establishes. No man can change.
Se aplica a todos los hombres en todas partes.
Applies to all men everywhere.
Pecado a los que violan.
Sin to those who violate.
Es justicia para aquellos que la obedecen.
Righteousness to those that obey.
Holiness is the broadest application of God’s purity and righteousness
Examples of Holiness: Ejemplos de santidad:
Modesty - Modestia
Seperation - Separación
men’s dress vs woman’s dress - vestido de hombre y vestido de mujer
Men’s hair and woman’s hair - Cabello de hombres y cabello de mujeres
Purity - Pureza
Truth - Verdad
Integrity - Integridad
Estas cosas y más son principios de santidad.
These things and more are principles of holiness. -
Si nos equivocamos en los principios de santidad, ¡pecamos!
If we get holiness principals wrong, we sin!
Aquí está el problema…
Here is the problem…
Dios dice sé santo, pero no define la santidad en detalles.
God says be holy, but does not define holiness in details.
More than 650 times in the Bible we are commanded to be holy.
We are given examples of holiness.
Here is what I mean - Some examples of not just a command to be holy but the command is defined as well.
We are commanded to dress holy.
What does that mean?
5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.
There are three categories of sin:
Blasphemy - Blasfemia
Abominations - Abominación
Sin - Pecado
For a man to wear woman’s cloths and a woman to wear mans cloths is an abomination!
Where does the BIBLE say what is mans cloths and what is woman’s cloths?
It’s not there!
The bible says to be modest, separate from world and to protect each other in our dress.
So what determines what is man’s clothing and what is woman’s?
Culture!
Society determines what a man looks like or what a woman looks like.
This is why separation and modesty are principles of holiness!
We are called to be holy, that means separate from this world.
So holiness is about building a Godly culture!
Holiness is about Kingdom culture!
So we have to look at the principles of holiness and apply them to our lives today!
How can we say that we should not smoke or do drugs?
The bible does not tell us to or not to do those things…
But it does tell us not to harm our bodies!
So the God’s principle is to be healthy.
Man’s standard or rule is don’t smoke and do drugs.
So we take God’s principle and then apply a biblical rule to follow…
Men don’t wear woman’s cloths and woman don’t wear men’s cloths (God).
Our application of God’s holiness is men wear pants and woman wear a dress…
God’s holiness says for women to be mostest.
That means don’t show off your body…
Man applies God’s command with a standard or rule - dress this long, sleeve this long, neckline to here, not tight…
Conclusion:
Holiness is about creating a Kingdom culture!
HG is to teach us about being holy!
And parents, husbands, elders, pastors
Next lesson we will talk about who has the right to make the rules (standards).
