Witnesses for Jesus

John 5:30–32 ESV
“I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me. If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true. There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the testimony that he bears about me is true.
John 5:33–35 ESV
You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. Not that the testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.
John 5:36–38 ESV
But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent.
John 5:39–42 ESV
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. I do not receive glory from people. But I know that you do not have the love of God within you.
John 5:43–45 ESV
I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him. How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope.
John 5:46–47 ESV
For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”
John 5:30 ESV
“I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
The doctrine of Trinity is not the doctrine of three gods. Jesus can do nothing on his own. As He hears, He judges, and His judgment is just, because He seeks not His own will but the will of Him who sent him. There are a few examples.
Matthew 26:39 ESV
And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
Jesus wanted to avoid the crucifixion. So He prayed earnestly. When He prayed his sweat of forehead dropped like blood. He asked to His father, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
John 4:34 ESV
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.
Doing the will of the Father was more important than His regular food. And Jesus said,
John 6:38 ESV
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.
John 5:19 ESV
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
John 8:16 ESV
Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me.
John 7:16–18 ESV
So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.
John 14:10 ESV
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
John 5:31–33 (ESV)
If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true. There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the testimony that he bears about me is true. You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.
John 5:34–36 (ESV)
Not that the testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.
First witness of Jesus was John the Baptist. He was a burning and shining lamp. Jews rejoiced for a while in his light. But there was another greater witness. The works that the Father had given Jesus to accomplish, the very works that He was doing, bore witness about Jesus that the Father had sent Jesus. So Nicodemus, the teacher of Israel said,
John 3:2 (ESV)
This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”
John 5:37–38 (ESV)
And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent.
The third witness is the Father who sent Jesus.
John 1:32–33 (ESV)
And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
Matthew 17:1–3 ESV
And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.
Matthew 17:4–5 (ESV)
And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.
The Father witnessed for His Son.
John 5:39–40 (ESV)
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.
The Scriptures, even the Bible is the fourth witness for Jesus. They search the Scriptures because they think that in them they have eternal life. But they cannot have eternal life. Why? Because they refuse to believe the testimony for Jesus in the Scriptures. Why? Why don’t they believe the testimony of the Scripture?
John 5:41–43 (ESV)
I do not receive glory from people. But I know that you do not have the love of God within you. I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
Because they are rebellious people, they don’t have the love of God within them. But when another comes in his own name, they will receive him.
John 5:44–45 ESV
How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope.
They receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God.
John 5:46–47 (ESV)
For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”
The fifth witness was Moses who wrote of Jesus.
Deuteronomy 18:15 (ESV)
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen
Psalm 110:1 (ESV)
The Lord(YWHW) says to my Lord(Adonai): “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”
Matthew 22:41–43 (ESV)
Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,
Matthew 22:44–46 (ESV)
“ ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet” ’? If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.
King David prophesied about 1000 years before Jesus’ coming.
There are five witnesses for Jesus,
John the Baptist,
The works that the Father had given Jesus to accomplish,
The Father
The Scriptures,
Moses.
All prophet of Old Testament prophesied Jesus. The last prophet was John the Baptist.
