Baby Dedication

This morning, , we want to take a few minutes to celebrate one of God’s greatest gifts to us. [Everyone involved in the dedication to come forward.]

Mother’s Name: Felicia Foye

The Bible says that children are a gift from God. Psalm 127:3 says, “Children are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.”

In a moment, I’m going to pray a prayer of dedication for Akhen, asking God to bless his life. Before I do that, I want to explain to you what this dedication ceremony is about and why we’re doing it. This morning’s dedication story does not make Akhen a Christian. It does not start a relationship with God for him. Every person must come to the place in his or her life where he or she chooses to become a follower of Jesus Christ.

But even though Akhen has to choose for himself to become a follower of Jesus, that does not mean that God is a neutral bystander in his life. The Bible says that every person who chooses to become a follower of Jesus does so because God has worked inside that person’s life to bring them to the decision to follow Jesus. God does this in many ways. One of them is through parents who love God and raise their children to follow Jesus. By coming this morning to dedicate Akhen to the Lord, Cameron and Felicia are making a commitment to God and to raise himaccording to the ways taught in the Bible. Deuteronomy 6:5-7 says, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Also, Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not turn from it.”

And now, let’s offer a prayer of dedication for Akhen Will you stand with us while I pray for her?

PRAYER: “Father, thank you for giving Aken these parents. The gift of life is such a special gift, and we thank you for bringing Akhen into this family. Because Akhen is made in Your image, Father, we know that her life is precious and that she is a special person.

We ask, Father, that you will help these parents to raise him according to the truth of Your Word, the Bible. And, as he learns about You from the Bible, we ask, Father, that You would bless his life. Help Akhen to serve You with the time and talents that You will give him in hia life. We ask this all in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Amen.”
