The superiority of Christ to the Jewish Law and Tradition.
The most Hebrew thing a Hebrew can do is worship the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob.
Jesus (Yashua) is the promised Messiah (Christ) and He is the New Covenant spoken of by the prophet Jeremiah when he said,
Jeremiah 31:31 NASB95
31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,
In Hebrews Chapter 9, the writer is showing the superiority of the new covenant over the old covenant, but in the most flattering way.
EXAMPLE: If you want to elevate one position above another there are several ways to accomplish this.
Diminish the other way.
think politics
Elevate your way.
Think Me monster
Elevate the other way, then show how your way is above that.
Let’s see this demonstrated.
Hebrews 9:1–5 NASB95
1 Now even the first covenant had regulations of divine worship and the earthly sanctuary. 2 For there was a tabernacle prepared, the outer one, in which were the lampstand and the table and the sacred bread; this is called the holy place. 3 Behind the second veil there was a tabernacle which is called the Holy of Holies, 4 having a golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden jar holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod which budded, and the tables of the covenant; 5 and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat; but of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
The Detail.
For these Jewish believers in Christ, the writer would not need to provide more detail. They were intimately familiar with what the Tabernacle represented.
So for us:
Outer Holy Place: The place where the worship of God occurs. Only one way in.
Lampstand: Lit the Holy place.
The table and the sacred bread: 12 Loaves - Represents God’s chosen people.
The second veil: The one place through which men must pass to enter into the presence of the Lord.
Alter of incense: Prayers offered by God’s people.
Ark of the Covenant: The presence of God.
The Thing to remember:
The Tabernacle was a picture of the created universe and the heavenly places.
Exodus 25:8–9 NASB95
8 “Let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them. 9 “According to all that I am going to show you, as the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furniture, just so you shall construct it.
The Holy of Holies is the place where God meets with man.
The Garden of Eden was a tabernacle.
The New Jerusalem will be a tabernacle.
What these two tabernacles have in common is that there is continual access to the presence of God because of the absence of Sin which separates us.

Limitations of the old covenant

Hebrews 9:8–10 NASB95
8 The Holy Spirit is signifying this, that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the outer tabernacle is still standing, 9 which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, 10 since they relate only to food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until a time of reformation.
PAUSE HALFWAY THROUGH 9.
If you go to the movies, you will be shown pre-views for future movies, but you never see pre-views of the movie you are there to see.
One ceases when the other starts.
Present time: Its Showtime.
The symbol is only that: A symbol. A placeholder for the real.

Christ enters the perfect tabernacle:

Hebrews 9:11–12 NASB95
11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Jesus is the:
Way into the Holy Place.
He is the Light that shows us the way into the presence of God.
He is the Table that holds God’s people in His hand.
He is the vehicle that caries our prayer to the Father.
He is the veil through which we must enter to be in God’s pretense.
He is our High Priest that offers prayer and sacrifice to God on our behalf.
Jesus is the Tabernacle.
John 1:1 NASB95
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 NASB95
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
What this means for us:
Romans 6:23 NASB95
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Genesis 3:21 NASB95
21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.
Hebrews 9:18–20 NASB95
18 Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. 19 For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.”
Hebrews 9:22 NASB95
22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
The tabernacle and its sacrifices were a copy from a pattern.
Hebrews 9:24 NASB95
24 For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
So how do we accept His sacrifice?
Romans 10:9–10 NASB95
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
The results.
Hebrews 9:27–28 NASB95
27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, 28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
