Crowned in Glory: God’s Intent for Humanity

Bible Passage: Hebrews 2:

Summary: Hebrews 2:5-9 explains how God's plan for salvation is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who, though made lower than the angels, was crowned with glory and honor because of his suffering and death, aiming to bring many sons to glory.
Hebrews 2:5 ESV
For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking.
Application: This passage encourages believers to understand their worth and purpose in God's plan. By seeing Jesus as the fulfillment of God's intention for humanity, believers can find hope and strength amid their struggles and discouragements, reminding them that they are predestined for glory through Him.
Hebrews 2:6 (ESV)
It has been testified somewhere,
“What is man, that you are mindful of him,
or the son of man, that you care for him?
Teaching: These verses teach that humanity's identity and purpose are intrinsically linked to Christ's redemptive work. Believers are not merely subjects of divine love; they are called to share in Christ's victory and glory.
Hebrews 2:7 (ESV)
You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor,
How this passage could point to Christ: In the broader narrative of scripture, Christ is presented as the fulfillment of God's promise to restore humanity to its intended glory. He embodies the pinnacle of God's creation, offering not just salvation but also restoring the dignity and purpose of every believer.
Hebrews 2:8 (ESV)
putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.
Big Idea: God’s ultimate plan for humanity finds its full expression in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, empowering us to live in the light of that glory and purpose.
Hebrews 2:9 ESV
But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
Psalm 8:1–2 (ESV)
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.
Psalm 8:3–5 (ESV)
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him,and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
Psalm 8:6–8 (ESV)
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
Psalm 8:9 (ESV)
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
