Entangled No More: The Call to A Focused Life

Bible Passage: 2 Timothy 2:4

2 Timothy 2:4 (TPT) For every soldier called to active duty must divorce himself from the distractions of this world so that he may fully satisfy the One who chose him.
The Apostle Paul uses the metaphor of a soldier to emphasize the importance of single-minded devotion to Christ.
He encourages us to think about Jesus.
Christ was unwavering in His focus on His mission,
Jesus said in John 5:30 (LSB) … I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
He told His disciples in John 4:34 (LSB) .… “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.
In John 6:38 (LSB) [Jesus said] “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
Can we see the example of our Lord and Savior?
Like the soldier Paul talked about in 2 Tim 2, we need ditch the distractions and focus on the mission of fully satisfying the One, Jesus, who called us to serve Him.
We need to avoid any distractions that would hinder our relationship with God and prioritize spiritual engagements over secular engagements in our lives.
What was true in the first century is just as true in the 21st century.
So we need to ask the Holy Spirit to help us identify and resist the worldly distractions that prevent us from fulfilling our call.
Focused more on God's plan than on societal expectations.
Especially since we are living in the last moments before the return of Jesus.
When, as I said this morning, the world NEEDS the church to be the church.
May New Life family Church focus in on what God has called us to do:
Reach the lost for Jesus
Disciple believers in Christ
Give greater opportunities for prayer and worship.
Build relationships with one another so that we might encourage one another on this journey.
Help people recognize the call of God on their lives (and EVERYONE has a call!) and facilitate the fulfillment of that call.
