Matthew 4:1-11

English Standard Version (Chapter 4)

The Temptation of Jesus

4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written,

“ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone,

but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,

“ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,’

and

“ ‘On their hands they will bear you up,

lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ ”

7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God

and him only shall you serve.’ ”

11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

I WANT YOU TO THINK OF THIS LIKE A FIGHT! CARMAN

For me When I hear this Story I think of Carman!

-Being a Kid I want to fight Satan so Bad!

I imagined myself in the Music video, some of yall are a little new to the Christian world so I need to show ya what I am talking about!

JESUS’ Battle was way more intense…

First Nugget* Satan always counterfeits what God says..

Genesis 3:1 ESV

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

Second Nugget* The Spirit will lead us into the storm! WHY? to GROW US!

-LIE: God will never give you more than you can handle…. WRONG

1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

While this verse does say that God is faithful and that He is with us, it doesn’t say that He’ll never give us more than we can handle.

It says that we won’t be tempted beyond what we are able, and then later on in the verse, it goes on to say that “with the temptation [God] will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.”

HE WILL ALWAYS GIVE A WAY OF ESCAPE! (HOLY HABITS)

Matthew 4:2 ESV

And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

Jesus was in the right mind because he Fasted…

POINT 1: Prayer and Fasting puts you in the right mindset, but Word and Worship is HOW YOU FIGHT!

JESUS USED THE WORD

Hebrews 4:12 ESV

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

SATAN TEMPTS GOD.

3 Things to shut Jesus Down.

-Bread - I drove by Babes Chicken and yall I almost broke my Fast, but Jesus was on another level getting tempted by rocks!

WHAT DOES SATAN DO!?!! (Uses Scripture against God?

-Scripture is Living , Why is it important for Satan to know it?

-SATAN understands its our way to FIGHT!

7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

Satan started with small like Food, then ended tempting God with his very own calling!

Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God

and him only shall you serve.’ ”

11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

-Satan left Jesus, he had no choice he was defeated.

Some of You are walking through the Temptation.

-Drugs

-Sex/Lust

-Persecution

God is giving you the living WORD to combat it!

-Drugs (Psalms 34:17)

Psalm 34:17 ESV

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.

-Sex/Lust (Romans 12:2 )“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

-Persecution (Matthew 5:10 )““Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

YOU MAY BE TIRED

POINT 2: WORSHIP HELPS US KEEP FIGHTING!

WORSHIP

Not the music you listen too

Worship is the act of reverent love, adoration, and submission to God.

Worship is actually WORTHSHIP!

It involves recognizing His worth, praising His attributes, and surrendering to His will through actions, words, and heart posture.

John 4:23–24 ESV

But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

This scripture defines worship as both an internal and external act, guided by two key elements:

    1.    “In Spirit” – Worshiping with a genuine heart and through the Holy Spirit, engaging with God on a spiritual level.

He is Worthy of it all!

-Alpha and Omega

-Creator of all

-You cant step without seeing God’s Miracle (BISHOP DARREN I MIGHT BE OFF HERE)

-Heart is pumping, Brain is Processing, Nerves talk to muscles and then you move..

He doesn’t need our worship but when we worship, The enemy can attack us because we understand our need for the source!

    2.    “In Truth” – Worshiping based on the truth of who God is, aligning with His Word and character.

We give because He Gave

We Love People because of His Love for People

We serve because He sent His son to serve us!

WE Worship because of who He is!

POINT 3: WORD IS THE SWORD AND WORSHIP IS THE SHIELD

Make a Holy Habit of Reading God’s Word and Worshipping?

WHY? Because the Enemy will try to STEAL KILL AND DESTROY!

We forget what to do when we are in the Battle!

Holy Habits will make fighting the Enemy natural for us!

THANK GOD HE HAS GIVEN US THESE TOOLS TO NOT LET THE ENEMY WIN!

ALTER RESPONSE:

-tired of fighting and you have done it on your own. (It’s time to worship to receive protection.)

-Ready to fight, what got Jesus in the mindset to Fight the enemy? (Prayer and reading God’s word) Time to release that in this moment.

-The first step to fighting back, is realizing Jesus is your source (Salvation).
