God of abundant Love and Grace,
We gather here in this space today to celebrate, give thanks for, and look forward to the many blessings that you have lavished upon this church, this community, and in particular this garden.
We are reminded in this moment that the story of God and humanity began in a garden — the garden was the source of life sustaining food, the original vocation of humanity, and the place where we were first invited into a relationship and community with you.
We are reminded that gardens were the source of life and sustenance for those on the margins of society throughout the story of your people Israel. For through Moses you commanded them:
Leviticus 19:9–10 NRSV
When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very edges of your field, or gather the gleanings of your harvest. You shall not strip your vineyard bare, or gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the alien: I am the Lord your God.
We stand in your presence today and offer the entirety of this garden’s proceeds to those in our community who face the greatest need. We do so in remembrance of the sacrificial love of your Son Jesus, who in a garden prayed and offered himself for us.
God we ask that you would continue to bless this Garden, that you would bless all those gathered here tonight, and that you would bless all those who meet with your tangible love through the produce of this garden.
We thank you for the hands and hearts that have been so deeply moved by your grace, that this parking lot has been transformed into a source of life. We ask that you would do what only you can do and bring physical and spiritual transformation through this space.
We thank you for the generous donations of money, time, and sweat. We thank you for the support of our community, our partners, and our government. We thank you that children are being taught the gift of gardening through this effort. We thank you for reminding us — that it all begins and ends in the garden.
We give you the highest praise, in Jesus holy name. Amen
