Reason 1: Because We Must Love Our Neighbor (Luke 10:25-37)

We must love our neighbor

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is, what we would call today a sort of comedic satire.

That is to say, all of the characters in the story don’t do what you would expect them to do.

The priest and the levit, who ought to have been the hero of the story are the ones who passed by on the other side of the road and left this man to die.

The Samaritan, who would have been seen as the sworn enemy of the Jews, he is the one who “took compassion” on the man, and bound up his wounds, saw to his needs, and even paid for his care.

The contrast here is between “pass by on the other side” and “Took compassion”

The Samaritan had compassion on the man

The Samaritan entered into the man’s suffering

The Samaritan used the man’s at his disposal to intervene on behalf of the man.

Who was the neighbor? “The one who showed mercy”

We Must Love Our Pre-Born Neighbor

Proverbs 31:8–9 “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

Isaiah 1:17 “learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.”

We Must Love Our Abortion-Minded Neighbor

Proverbs 24:10–12 “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?”

We must hold them back by telling them the truth (At the Abortion Clinic)

We must hold them back by establishing just laws (At the State House)

Yes this is love

We must hold them back by providing them hope and help when they keep their baby.

We must love our post-abortive neighbor

We must tell them the truth about their sin

We must tell them the truth about the Gospel

Romans 5:8 “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

It’s not that the sin of abortion is a little thing. It’s that the cross of Jesus Christ is a big thing

Dear friend, the blood of Christ is sufficient for you.

Reason 2: Because We Must Love Our Nation (This is an extension of loving our neighbor)

Numbers 35:33–34 “You shall not pollute the land in which you live, for blood pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it. You shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell, for I the Lord dwell in the midst of the people of Israel.””

God Judges Nations that shed innocent blood and Sacrifice Their Children

Deuteronomy 19:9–10 “provided you are careful to keep all this commandment, which I command you today, by loving the Lord your God and by walking ever in his ways—then you shall add three other cities to these three, lest innocent blood be shed in your land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance, and so the guilt of bloodshed be upon you.”

Psalm 106:34–39 “They did not destroy the peoples, as the Lord commanded them, but they mixed with the nations and learned to do as they did. They served their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood. Speak the truth to our abortion-minded Neighbor, minister the gospel to them, and provide them with help and hope they need to love their pre-born baby.

Administer the balm of the Gospel to our post-abortive neighbor

Let it not be said of us that we passed by on the other side of the road. Let it be said of us that we showed compassion by bringing the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ into conflict with this evil.
