Philippians 2:5–11 CSB
5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. 7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross. 9 For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth— 11 and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Adopt the attitude of Christ

Some of us need an attitude adjustment
We think we are entitled to something b. We act like we are something special
Even if you are special, your title does not give you a right to exploit it
Jesus could have done anything
And he chose to become humble
Jesus never sought to be served in anyway
But he served instead

Be Humble

Humility through obedience
Jesus humbled himself BY BEING OBEDIENT b. If you need help with humility try being obedient

Exaltation through humility

The whole thing is backwards
First will be last, last will be first b. To live you have to die
To be exalted, you have to be humble
Jesus was exalted through his humility
More specifically humble obedience
John 13:3–5 ESV
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

Everything for a towel

Jesus had everything in his hands
All power
All authority
Yet he set it aside to pick up a towel

Title = Towel

Every title has a towel attached
It doesn’t matter the size of the title
A bigger title just means a bigger towel
A bigger towel because you have more feet to wash
You can’t have the big towel until you learn how to use the rag
Faithful with small things to be trusted with big things
How you carry your towel will determine if you get the title
To many people use it as a whip
Washing feet is not fun
it is messy
the dirt on their feet represents the mess they picked up on their journey

Jesus washed Judas’s feet to

some of the same feet you wash will…
Walk away from you
Try to trample you
Betray you
Washing feet is not for their benefit it is for yours
Jesus said he did this as an example
We are blessed if we do it
