Righteousness of God (17)

God’s righteousness is revealed in the Gospel

In the death of Christ God revealed his righteousness by punishing sin

In the resurrection of Christ God revealed his righteousness by making salvation available to the believing sinner

The Gospel revealed a righteousness that is by faith

In the OT righteousness was by works

man discovered quickly that he could not obey God’s law and meet His righteous demands

The just shall live by faith

No Excuses (18-20)

Immediately after God’s righteousness comes God’s wrath (18-19)

God is a just God; if He is not just then He is not good

The wrath is against ungodliness and unrighteousness of man

God is revealed in creation (20)

The order of creation and the intimate design show a creator

“There’s got to be something more”

Intellectual Depravity (21-23)

Man has always thought that he knew better than God (21-22)

Garden of Eden

“You will be like God”

You deserve this; why should God have information you don’t have?

Worshipping idols (23)

Man has been worshipping idols since the fall

Golden calf; Graven images

Today we worship our phones, information, food, comfort, ourselves.

Not much has changed56

Gifts over Giver (24-25)

God gave them up (24)

Gave them what they wanted

Why would he do that?

So they would know their need for God

We want the gifts over the giver (25)

Kids do the same thing

Gifts of the Spirit vs Fruit of the Spirit

Run out your rope (26-28)

God gave them up

Run out your rope

You’ll see you don’t know better

Unnatural desires

homosexuality

pornography

God gave them over

Your mind is where everything starts

What you put in is what will come out

Willingly and joyfully (29-32)

Taking pleasure in sin

So lost you don’t know the way home
