Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,
David is making an argument on why He praises God.
We argue about allot of things. Its usually two opposing views one believes the other view is either wrong or dangerous.
But seemingly there is no opposing view here is just a psalm of David.
But there is an opposing view and its us!
We are Davids opposing view.
His flesh is an opposing view.
Indirectly i can make an argument and not even open my mouth.
Partial obedience is an argument of insincerity.
Thomas Manton
Like my lack partial obedience to God is an argument that I’m insincere in my walk with him.
When we argue these truth in our heart we should blessed the Lord.
if I’m blessing The Lord with my whole soul I don’t give room for an opposing argument which is not to bless the Lord. Or for me to bless God partially.
If you ever need a reason to praise think on these things.
There are ten thousand arguments in Scripture for happiness in the Christian; but I do not know that there is one logical argument for misery.
Our Stronghold, Volume 9, Sermon #491 - Proverbs 18:10
Charles Spurgeon
When we tell ourselves to bless The Lord we are shaking off apathy or gloom.
The mercy of God we should be threads on the strings of our memory.
We should where mercy around like jewelry to stir up a heart of gratitude.
vs 2 forget not all His benefits-
When we forget the benefits of God instead of our hearts being filled with praise we become proud.
But Hezekiah did not repay according to the favor shown him, for his heart was lifted up; therefore wrath was looming over him and over Judah and Jerusalem.
He forgives all of our iniquities.
Until we experience the forgiveness of God. Which is the releasing of our sins. healing, redemption, and satisfaction are unknown blessings.
We have no clue what these blessings even look like!
