Every year, we resolve to make changes—whether it’s losing weight, exercising, or praying more. But then, months later, we wonder where that motivation went. It’s like putting on a pair of old glasses and realizing the prescription is wrong. We need a fresh perspective! God invites us to adjust our focus to His vision, ensuring that we see clearly our purpose and direction for life, just as it says in Philippians 3:14. I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Php 3:14.
A man once tried to sail across the ocean in a homemade boat. To his dismay, he quickly found himself off-course and completely lost. His friends, who were expert sailors, reminded him to recalibrate his compass. Just as this sailor needed a reset, we too must realign our vision with God's direction to avoid drifting away. Isaiah 40:31 tells us that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength.
In a small town, a couple decided to paint their old, worn-out fence. Initially, it felt like a tedious task, but as they brushed on fresh paint, not only did the fence look new, but their spirits lifted as they worked together. Just like that fence, our vision sometimes needs a fresh coat of paint. In Habakkuk 2:2, it says, 'Write the vision and make it plain,' reminding us that renewing our vision can revitalize our hearts and motivate us anew!
A teacher once shared that in every new school year, she asks her students to create a vision board. They cut out images and phrases that resonate with their goals. One student boldly wrote, 'I want to be the next Einstein!' Laughter erupted, but the teacher encouraged them to think big. Just like the boy, God encourages us to dream big and renew our vision, as we see in Philippians 4:13, 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.'
A young man planned a surprise birthday party for his best friend, spending weeks organizing it. On the day of the party, a huge storm hit and nearly ruined everything. Instead of giving up, they moved the party indoors and ended up having an amazing time. Just as God’s plans can surprise us with storms, our commitment to Him can lead us to unexpected joy!
In a small town, a couple planted a tree in their backyard, hoping it would grow to be magnificent. For years, it seemed like it wasn’t growing at all. But one day they woke up to find it had sprouted into a beautiful oak! Sometimes our commitment to God seems slow, but His plans are always developing beneath the surface. Stay patient!
Imagine a child trying to build a Lego castle using the instructions upside down. As they get frustrated and stray from the blueprint, parents step in and say, 'Stay committed to the plan!' Similarly, life can feel chaotic, but trusting in God’s directions ensures we build something beautiful.
A sunflower turns its face towards the sun throughout the day. It knows that staying focused on the light leads to growth. Just like this flower, when we commit to God's plan, we find direction and nourishment for our souls, even if the journey takes twists and turns!
I once tried to bake a cake from scratch. I forgot one key ingredient, and it turned out flat. When we don’t follow God’s recipe for our lives, our outcomes can be disappointing. But when we stay committed and follow His plan, we create something that rises beautifully — just like a well-made cake!
