Draw Near: Embracing Intimacy with God

1. Living God’s Word can keep us pure.

Psalm 119:9–11 ESV
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
We speak to God in prayer, and he speaks to us through his Word and draws near to us in personal interaction and relationship: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you”
Wayne Grudem

2. Learning God’s Word, to proclaim God’s Word.

Psalm 119:12–14 ESV
Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes! With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches.
In practical terms, no-one can be ‘sanctified’ or set apart for the Lord’s use without learning to think God’s thoughts after him, without learning to live in conformity with the ‘word’ he has graciously given.
D. A. Carson

Perhaps delve into Jesus' metaphor of the vine and branches, illustrating the essential connection between Jesus and His followers. By abiding in Christ, believers bear fruit and experience life's fullness. Emphasize sustained intimacy through prayer, scripture, and communion with Him, noting that apart from Him, true spiritual vitality is impossible.

3. Loving God’s Ways.

Psalm 119:15–16 ESV
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
A man never talks rightly of God’s works till he knows God’s ways. And it is idle to talk of them if there is no doing at the back of the talking. Angelic Protection In Appointed Ways, Volume 52, Sermon #2969 - Psalm 91:11
Charles Spurgeon
