Sermon Script: Focus on 2025

Theme: What is the Main Focus of Christians as Jesus' Disciples? Bible Passage: Matthew 6:25-34

1. Theme

The theme of this message is living a life focused on God's kingdom and His righteousness. As disciples of Jesus, our main focus should be trusting in God's provision and seeking His kingdom above all else, leaving behind the worries of life.

2. Goal

The goal of this sermon is to encourage believers to let go of worry, trust in God's provision, and align their priorities with God's kingdom and righteousness. By doing so, they will experience peace, purpose, and the fulfillment of God's calling in their lives.

3. Motivation: The Result of the Goal

When we let go of worry and seek God's kingdom first, we experience the following:
Peace of Mind: No longer weighed down by anxiety about the future, we rest in God's faithful care.Purposeful Living: Our lives are no longer defined by chasing temporary things, but by fulfilling God's eternal calling.Abundant Provision: When we align with God's priorities, He supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).

4. Review: Inform the Context

In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus is speaking as part of the Sermon on the Mount. His audience included people struggling with daily survival, living under Roman oppression, and often consumed with worry about their material needs. Jesus addresses their concerns directly, challenging them to trust God instead of being consumed by anxiety. He uses vivid examples of birds and flowers, which depend entirely on God's care, to show how much more God values and provides for His children.
This teaching follows Jesus’ earlier statement in Matthew 6:24, that no one can serve two masters. Worry often arises when we try to serve both God and money or when we focus on earthly treasures rather than heavenly treasures. Jesus calls His disciples to a higher way of living—focused on God, free from worry, and full of faith.

5. Sermon Points

Point 1: Let Go of Worry (Matthew 6:25-27)

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.”
Key Insight: Worry is unproductive and demonstrates a lack of trust in God’s sovereignty. Jesus makes it clear that life is more than food, drink, and clothing. He asks, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Worry changes nothing but consumes our energy and faith.Illustration: Imagine holding a glass of water in your hand. The weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer you hold it, the heavier it feels. Worry works the same way—it weighs us down the longer we carry it.Transformation Step: Surrender your worries to God in prayer. Trust that He sees your needs and has a perfect plan for your life (Philippians 4:6-7).

Point 2: Trust God’s Provision (Matthew 6:28-30)

“See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.”
Key Insight: Jesus uses the examples of birds and flowers to show that God provides for His creation without their striving or anxiety. If God takes such care of temporary things, how much more will He care for us, His beloved children?Theological Insight: God’s provision is rooted in His character as our loving Father. He knows our needs before we ask and delights in caring for His children.Reflection Question: Where have you seen God’s provision in your life? How has He provided in ways that exceeded your expectations?Transformation Step: Trust God daily by looking for His faithfulness in small things. As you focus on His care, your faith will grow.

Point 3: Seek First the Kingdom (Matthew 6:31-34)

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Key Insight: The antidote to worry is a kingdom-first mindset. When we prioritize God’s will, His mission, and living in righteousness, He promises to meet our needs. This doesn’t mean ignoring responsibilities but aligning them with God’s purposes.Contrast with Gentiles: Jesus says, “The pagans run after all these things” (v. 32). Non-believers live in anxiety, striving for material things because they don’t trust in God. As disciples, we are called to live differently—with faith and eternal focus.Practical Step: Start each day by asking, How can I prioritize God’s kingdom today? Whether through prayer, serving others, or sharing the Gospel, make God’s mission the center of your life.Transformation Step: Stop chasing temporary things and start pursuing eternal treasures. Remember that when God’s kingdom comes first, everything else falls into place.

6. Conclusion

As we move into 2025, Jesus' words in Matthew 6:25-34 challenge us to reorient our focus. Life is not about striving for temporary needs but about trusting in God and living for His kingdom. Let go of worry, trust in His faithful provision, and seek His kingdom first. Remember, worry is unproductive, but faith opens the door to peace, purpose, and provision.
Jesus is inviting us to live differently—free from anxiety and full of trust in Him. As disciples, our focus must always remain on His kingdom. This year, may your faith grow stronger and your focus sharper as you fix your eyes on Christ and His calling for your life.

7. Application

Practical Applications for 2025:
Let Go of Worry: Begin each day by giving your worries to God in prayer. Keep a journal to list your anxieties and mark down how God provides for you in those areas.Seek God Daily: Make time for personal devotion and study of God’s Word to align your heart with His kingdom. Start with Matthew 6:33 as your daily meditation verse.Reprioritize Your Life: Evaluate how you’re spending your time, energy, and resources. Are they aligned with God’s kingdom purposes? If not, make intentional changes to prioritize eternal things.Serve Others: Seeking God’s kingdom includes loving others. Look for ways to serve in your church or community as a way of showing God’s love and extending His kingdom.Trust God Fully: Whenever worry creeps in, replace it with a declaration of faith, like Psalm 23:1“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.”
Closing Challenge: As we enter 2025, let this be the year you step fully into the life God has called you to live—free from worry, focused on His kingdom, and filled with faith in His provision. Trust Him, seek Him, and watch how He provides for your every need. Will you take this step of faith and focus on God this year?

End with Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness and provision. Help us to trust You completely and to let go of our worries. Teach us to seek Your kingdom first and live in alignment with Your will. As we step into 2025, may our lives reflect Your glory and bring honor to Your name. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
By contrast, the focus here is not on the potential convert’s humility, brokenness or faith, but on the need for transformation, for new life from another realm, for the intervention of the Spirit of God.
