Our Heavenly Father - Day 22 of 30
Welcome to Day 22 of 30, incorporating the names and attributes of our God into our understanding and our following God. Today, we are looking at the God as our Heavenly Father.
22. Father God
Jesus teaches that prayer begins with addressing God as Father (Matthew 6:9). The Holy Spirit reminds you that you’re God’s son or daughter and can cry out to Him as “Abba, Father,” an intimate Aramaic term similar to “Daddy.” The Creator of the universe cares for you.
Scripture:
Psalm 68:5-6 - A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows,
Is God in His holy habitation.
6God makes a home for the lonely;
He leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
Luke 11:1-4 - 1It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.”
2And He said to them, “When you pray, say:
‘Father, hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
3‘Give us each day our daily bread.
4‘And forgive us our sins,
For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.’”
Romans 8:15-17 - 15For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Prayer: Father God, thank You for calling me Your child. Help me to grasp the ways You care for me as a parent does for a child. Regardless of how my earthly dad has represented You to me, teach me what it looks like to live from my identity as Your child and heir.
