Welcome to Day 23 of 30, incorporating the names and attributes of our God into our understanding and our following God. Today, we are looking at the Jesus Christ as our Head.

23. The Church’s Head

God the Son, Jesus, is the head of the Church. As the head, the part of the body that sees, hears, thinks, and decides, He gives the orders that the rest of the body follows and lives by.

Scripture:

Ephesians 1:22-23 - 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Ephesians 5:23-30 - 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Colossians 1:18 - 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Prayer: Jesus, the Church’s Head, help me to see how I am an important part of this greater body, the Church. Help us as your body to follow You as head of the Church. Show us how You’ve positioned us to share the gospel and bring more into this fellowship.
