The Power of Faith

Introduction

Hebrews 11:11 “Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.”

Faith is the grounds for pleasing God. And our subject is certainly not lacking in this area of her life. Sarah serves as a great example of the “elders who obtained a good report” by faith. She serves as a great encouragement to all of us concerning the possibilities that may be accomplished by faith regardless of our weaknesses or past failures. Sarah’s faith is in a very practical area, namely, childbearing. Sometimes we think of faith as being only for something like worship or some big endeavor such as building the ark or leaving one’s country to move to another or being a missionary or some like endeavor. These are certainly places for faith, but faith may be applied to all the personal areas of our lives also, such as childbearing.

However, with this being said, you must understand that Sarah’s faith was tested. We all need to remember this: “A faith that is not tested, cannot be trusted.” Sarah knew that God had revealed His plan and will to her husband. But unlike Abraham Sarah’s faith wavered because she was barren for years, even past the age of childbearing. In (Genesis 18:12-15) Sarah laughed in unbelief. But one year later to the day Sarah laughed in faith (Genesis 21:6). Sarah laughed with joy as she had experienced the power of faith in her life. From that day forward Sarah possessed exceptional faith in her God. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In studying Sarah’s faith, I would like for us to consider first the power of faith in Sarah’s life and this same powerful faith may certainly become a reality in ours.
