Overflow
Introduction:
Last week, we explored the three levels of prosperity in God’s divine plan: Provision, Overflow, and Blessing. We discussed how God’s financial blueprint isn’t just about accumulating wealth but about stewarding His resources to experience financial freedom and to be a blessing to others.
Today, we’re diving deeper into the next step: Overflow – the level above our basic needs that allows us to give generously and glorify God.
Let’s open with this thought: God’s desire for your life is not just survival but abundance.
In John 10:10, Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This fullness of life includes spiritual, emotional, and yes, financial abundance that overflows into the lives of others.
Transition:
This week, we’ll focus on the Overflow level in God’s financial blueprint. We’ll uncover principles that allow us to live above the place of “Provision” and step into the joy of giving and blessing others.
Main Points:
Point #1: Tithing - Giving the First 10% to God
Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
A. Tithing is a Declaration of Trust:
Tithing isn't just an act of giving; it's an act of obedience that demonstrates we trust God as our provider. By giving the first 10%, we acknowledge that everything we have comes from Him.
Illustration:Think of a farmer sowing the first seeds of his harvest into fertile soil. This act of faith sets the stage for a greater return.
B. Tithing Activates God’s Overflow:
God invites us to “test” Him in this area, promising to open the floodgates of heaven. The promise of overflow isn’t just financial; it’s also spiritual and relational.
Abraham tithed to Melchizedek in Genesis 14, and God’s blessing multiplied throughout his lineage.
Statically speaking on 3-5% of the church members tithe.
If you’re not tithing, take the first step by committing the first 10% of your income to God.
Pray for a heart that sees tithing not as an obligation but as worship.
Main Point #2:Offerings - Using Your Surplus to Bless Others
Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labors] and with the firstfruits of all your income;
So shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine.
Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving].
And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].
Offerings Go Beyond Tithes:
Offerings are a demonstration of love and generosity that extend past what is required. It’s about giving from your overflow to help others, whether that’s through ministries, missions, or personal acts of kindness.
Biblical Example:
The Early Church (Acts 2:44-45):
The believers sold their possessions and gave to anyone in need. Their generosity not only met physical needs but also drew people into the faith.
Overflow as a Reflection of God’s Character:
God is generous, and He blesses us so we can mirror His generosity. When we give offerings, we reflect His heart and multiply His work in the world.

Point #3: Community - Being a Conduit of God’s Blessings
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Overflow Isn’t Just for You:
God’s blessings flow through us, not just to us. When we live in overflow, we are positioned to impact our communities, creating ripples of hope and provision.
Biblical Example:
Joseph in Egypt (Genesis 41):
Joseph stored grain during the years of plenty, and in the years of famine, he provided for entire nations. His position of overflow saved his family and countless others.
Being a Light in Your Community:
Imagine the impact of believers rising up as conduits of God’s blessings – feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, funding community initiatives, and spreading the gospel.Illustration: Like the moon reflects the sun’s light, we reflect God’s glory through acts of love and generosity.
Conclusion:
Overflow is more than a financial concept; it’s a spiritual principle that reflects God’s heart for His people. He doesn’t want us to live in lack or just enough. His plan is for us to experience abundance so that we can be a blessing to others.
Let’s commit to trusting God’s financial blueprint and walking in His overflow. Next week, we’ll explore the final level in God’s plan: Blessing – creating a legacy that outlives us and impacts future generations.
Call to Action:
Take time this week to examine your finances and pray for God’s guidance. Ask Him to show you areas where you can give generously and trust Him to provide for your needs. Remember, His supply is limitless, and His promises are sure.
