Wedding at Cana

1) The three Epiphany, Baptism, Wedding at Cana

Hay tres fiestas dominicales y este año celebramos una después de la otra! Desde antiguo, son las tres manifestaciones de quien es Cristo, conocido por Los Tres Magos (representando los gentiles), conocido por Dios Padre en el Rio y Juan Bautista y todos sus discípulos, y hoy, conocido por los discípulos suyos, no solamente como el Niño Rey, no solamente como Dios, hijo de Dios, pero ahora como el Rey, el Novio, que viene a traer jubilo y nuevo vino a la gente que espera!

Antiphon from Morning Prayer - Epiphany :

Today the Bridegroom claims his bride, the Church, since Christ has washed her sins away in Jordan’s waters; the Magi hasten with their gifts to the royal wedding; and the wedding guests rejoice, for Christ has changed water into wine, alleluia

2) Cry in the street, they have no wine, Christ the Bridegroom

Isaiah 24:8–11 NABRE

Stilled are the cheerful timbrels, ended the shouts of the jubilant, stilled the cheerful harp. They no longer drink wine and sing; strong brew is bitter to those who drink it. Broken down is the city of chaos, every house is shut against entry. In the streets they cry out for lack of wine; all joy has grown dim, cheer is exiled from the land.

Isaiah 24:14–15 NABRE

These shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for joy in the majesty of the Lord, they shall shout from the western sea: “Therefore, in the east give glory to the Lord! In the coastlands of the sea, to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel!”

But…

3) Now wasn't the proper time, now it was!

Algo interesante, “Mi hora no ha llegado” y momentos despues, “Llenen de agua esas tinajas.” Que ocurrió?

1- St. John Chrysostom said,

“My hour is not yet come, that is: I am not yet known to those present: nor do they yet know the wine is failing. Let them first know this: for he that has not yet felt the sense of need, will neither have much sense of the benefit received.”

4) The Good Wine was still yet to come!

Christ compares the Church to new Wine and New Wineskin in another place. The Old Covenant was nice, it was fine, but the new is better! And there is so much to be had! How can we possibly make this good news boring! well, we do our best don't we?!

Mark 2:22 NABRE

Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins are ruined. Rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins.”

Joel 3:18 NABRE

On that day the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills flow with milk, All the streams of Judah will flow with water. A spring will rise from the house of the Lord, watering the Valley of Shittim.

And then, having wine is nice, but what does our first reading say?

Isaiah 62:4–5 NABRE

No more shall you be called “Forsaken,” nor your land called “Desolate,” But you shall be called “My Delight is in her,” and your land “Espoused.” For the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be espoused. For as a young man marries a virgin, your Builder shall marry you; And as a bridegroom rejoices in his bride so shall your God rejoice in you.

Que es mejor que tener una bebida, una copa de vino con tu marido en tu día de boda?!

5) Christ is the Vine,

that's one of the descriptions he uses for himself. What does a vine do? It takes water and turns it into grapes and then someone takes that grape and turns it into wine. Christ is able to do that instantly! He skips a few steps! He shows too that He is the master of creation. He could have made wine out of nothing, but what he teaches us is that he works in cooperation with nature, that he created, he isn't in opposition to it like many other religions believed.

6) Christ and His Mother

And isn't it interesting, "Woman, my time has not yet come, it is not my hour. Don't you know, that as soon as I begin, our relationship changes? You won't just be my mother, you will have to become a mother to all my disciples. Once I begin, the hour comes nearer. Do you know what you say?!"

She tells the waiters, quodcumque dixerit vobis facite! Do whatever He tells you! I understand Son. I am willing. I trust you!

Hoy el Esposo reclama a su esposa, la Iglesia, porque Cristo lavó sus pecados en las aguas del Jordán; los Magos se apresuran con sus regalos a la boda real; y los invitados a la boda se alegran, porque Cristo transformó el agua en vino, aleluya.

‌los que vivían alegres se llenan de tristeza. 8 Se terminó la alegría de los tambores y del arpa, se calló el bullicio de los amigos de la diversión. 9 No más beber vino al son de las canciones; las bebidas se volverán amargas para los bebedores. 10 La ciudad del desorden está en ruinas, no se puede entrar en ninguna casa. 11 La gente llora en las calles por la escasez de vino; toda la alegría se ha apagado, ha quedado desterrada de la tierra. …pero…

3) Now wasn't the proper time, now it was!

1- San Juan Crisostomo dijo:

“No me conocen, la gente aquí, y no saben que el vino esta terminando…entienden esto, que los que no saben su necesidad, no regocijan con el beneficio recibido!”

4) The Good Wine was still yet to come!

En otro pasaje, Cristo compara a la Iglesia con el vino nuevo y el odre nuevo. El Antiguo Alianza era bueno, estaba bien, ¡pero el Nuevo es mejor! ¡Y hay tanto que probar! ¿Cómo podemos hacer que estas buenas noticias sean aburridas? Bueno, hacemos lo mejor que podemos, no?!

Mk2:22 Ni tampoco se echa vino nuevo en cueros viejos, porque el vino nuevo hace que se revienten los cueros, y se pierden tanto el vino como los cueros. Por eso hay que echar el vino nuevo en cueros nuevos.

Is 24,14 Los sobrevivientes gritarán llenos de alegría, levantarán la voz desde occidente al ver la majestad del Señor. 15 También en el oriente y en los países del mar darán gloria al Señor, el Dios de Israel.

cumpliendo la profecia

(Joel 3.18) En aquel día, el vino y la leche correrán como agua por montes y colinas, y los arroyos de Judá llevarán agua en abundancia. De mi templo brotará un manantial

And then, having wine is nice, but what does our first reading say?

Is 62:4-5 Ya no te llamarán “Abandonada”, ni a tu tierra, “Desolada”; a ti te llamarán “Mi complacencia” y a tu tierra, “Desposada”, porque el Señor se ha complacido en ti y se ha desposado con tu tierra. Como un joven se desposa con una doncella, se desposará contigo tu hacedor; como el esposo se alegra con la esposa, así se alegrará tu Dios contigo.

Que es mejor que tener una bebida, una copa de vino con tu marido en tu día de boda?!

5) Cristo es la Vid,

esa es una de las descripciones que usa para referirse a sí mismo. ¿Qué hace una vid? Toma agua y la convierte en uvas y luego alguien toma esa uva y la convierte en vino. ¡Cristo es capaz de hacer eso instantáneamente! ¡Se salta algunos pasos! También demuestra que es el dueño de la creación. Podría haber hecho vino de la nada, pero lo que nos enseña es que Él trabaja en cooperación con la naturaleza, que él creó, no está en oposición a ella como creían muchas otras religiones.

6) Cristo y su madre

¿Y no es interesante? “Mujer, mi tiempo aún no ha llegado, no es mi hora.” Fulton Sheen dijo, ¿No sabes que, en cuanto yo empiece, nuestra relación cambiará? No serás sólo mi madre, tendrás que convertirte en madre de todos mis discípulos. En cuanto yo empiece, la hora se acerca. ¿Sabes lo que dices?”!!!!

Ella les dice a los servidores: ¡quodcumque dixerit vobis facite! ¡Hagan lo que Él les diga! ¡Entiendo, hijo, mi Dios! ¡Estoy dispuesta! ¡Confío en ti!
