Deny yourself, follow Him

“Whoever wants to come after me” - Mt 16.24-26
Matthew 16:24–26 KJV 1900
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
After me
It is possible to be where He is as 1 John said 1 Jn 4.17
1 John 4:17 KJV 1900
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
John is acutely aware of the difference between the pre-ressurected (1 John 1) Servant of the Lord and Resurrected King (Rev 1.10-18)
Revelation 1:10–18 KJV 1900
I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Paul agrees with John that your spiritual position/placement is where Jesus is. (its your flesh that’s disagreeing)
Ephesians 1 KJV 1900
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
“your blessing remains in heaven until you possessing it doesn’t violate His kingdom principles”… till then i pray you don’t receive it from the enemy instead of submitting yourself to be transformed by the Lord.
Selfishness is seen in how we respond to life (which happens to us all)
Jesus denied himself multiple times
Soul Mt 26.37-39
Matthew 26:37–39 KJV 1900
And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
Body Philippians 2.8
Philippians 2:8 KJV 1900
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Spirit Luke 4.13
Luke 4:13 LEB
And when the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until a favorable time.
Jesus’ self denial made him invincible to the enemy’s “favourable time” (Jn 14.29-31)
John 14:29–31 LEB
And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has no power over me. But so that the world may know that I love the Father, and just as the Father has commanded me, thus I am doing. Get up, let us go from here!
DENY YOURSELF!
“neglecting to deny self is the first thing that got us into all the trouble we are in. Neglecting self-denial will keep us in all the trouble we find”
Galatians 2:19–20 LEB
For through the law I died to the law, in order that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me, and that life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Carrying your cross is two fold, following from denying yourself by obeying Jesus’ commands as He obeyed the Father’s: (Jn 14.31)
John 14:31 LEB
But so that the world may know that I love the Father, and just as the Father has commanded me, thus I am doing. Get up, let us go from here!
Daniel 3:17–18 ESV
If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”
Daniel 3:25 LEB
He answered, saying, “Look, I see four men unbound walking in the midst of the fire and there is no damage to them, and the appearance of the fourth man resembles the son of a god.”
How to have power with God starts by doing all He has commanded you, which starts by denying yourself,
2nd facet of carrying your cross and thus concluding the only biblical forms of it is Mt 5.10-12
Matthew 5:10–12 LEB
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things against you, lying on account of me. Rejoice and be glad, because your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you.
“if you are in the furnace for your sake, He forms you in the flames. If you are in the furnace for His sake He joins you in the flames”
Ephesians 2:6 KJV 1900
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
