Bible Reading, Or Why we read the Bible

Why do we Worship?
IF you were here last week, we discussed this questions. Why we Worship?
Worship is our response to God’s awesomeness!, We worship God because He is so amazing. He’s omnipotent – which means, He’s all powerful. He’s omniscient – He has all knowledge of all things. Finally, He’s omnipresent – He’s everywhere at the same time!
God the creator of the heavens and the Earth, the creator of you and me, that His eternal and divine power – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1:20.
The basic definition of Worship is “the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity.”
Not everyone Worships God the Creator. Some have idols, other make up 100’s of gods to worship.
Tonight we are going to brush the surface of ways we can worship.
One way we can deepen our relationship with God our Creator is to read his word. To read Scripture.
And what is His word?
The Bible!!
In 2nd Timothy 3:16-17
2 Timothy 3:16–17 CSB
All Scripture is inspired by God or (God Breathed) and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
So if the bible is Gods breath, to me that is something i want to bring into my life.
We read the bible because without it we fail to achieve life's greatest purpose. “To make God look Magnificent, to make him look precious and valuable. to look like the supreme treasure that He is
(Philippians 1:20 “My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all courage, Christ will be highly honored in my body, whether by life or by death.” )
IF we don’t desire and cherish, and enjoy and savor and treasure Christ, we will not commend Him as Magnificent in what we feel and say and do.
To Magnify Christ within us, we need steady meditation on the word of God.
When we read scripture we see God’s glory and this glory transforms us from the inside out.
SO The question is How can we have a Good/Meaningful bible reading that represents Good worship to a Good God?
WE can have a Group bible study. Like this… what we do on Sundays and Wednesdays.
With Group studies: We help each other interpret scripture. We get multiple insights and perspectives, you can enhance your learning by hearing others as they share their experiences. And in a group we can hold each other accountable to live out the truths of Gods words.
A personal Study is more than sitting in scripture day to day. this is specific, personal time set aside for deeper study.
Some of the Reasons for personal study:
You learn and know God’s word and truth
you learn to apply Scripture to your lives
you find answers to your own questions
you find the answer to other friends and family’s questions as you study
as you study on your own you are able to see Bible Characters in a new way
you will fill your mind with the truths and promises of God’s Word.
How often do we need to be in Scripture???
Every day!!
Lets look at 10 reasons to read the bible every day.
Scripture Saves:
1 Timothy 4:16 CSB
Pay close attention to your life and your teaching; persevere in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers
God saves up daily by scripture. That is what Paul is saying in this verse.
Scripture frees us form Satan
John 8:32 CSB
You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
In context Jesus is teaching the Jewish leaders and he is telling them, you may think you are not slaves, but they are of your father the devil and your will is to do evil, Satan is the enemy.
Our only hope in defeating a supernatural being, is with scripture.
John writes in 1 john 2:13-14
I write to you young believer because you are strong God’s word remains in you and you have conquered the evil one.
Every time Jesus was tempted by the Devil he struck back with What..… the Sword of the Spirit, which is scripture, Gods Word. and he had it memorized.
Scripture imparts grace and peace
2 Peter 1:2 CSB
May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Knowledge of God gained through scripture is not identical with grace but it is a means of grace. If we want to be made peaceful and powerful through grace divine grace, it happens in the knowledge of Jesus our Lord. That knowledge is found in one place.
Scripture Sanctifies
John 17:17 CSB
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
Sanctification is the process of becoming holy. or becoming more like Christ. This is optional for us Christian.
Hebrews 12:14 CSB
Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness—without it no one will see the Lord.
We Don’t become perfect in this life but we do become holy.
Scripture gives joy
1 Thessalonians 1:6 CSB
and you yourselves became imitators of us and of the Lord when, in spite of severe persecution, you welcomed the message with joy from the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 1:2 CSB
Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night.
Life without Joy is Unbearable. We as Christians will be persecuted so get use to it. but in all God sustains Joy.
Scripture protects us from destructive error
Ephesians 4:13 CSB
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into maturity with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness.
How do we stop being blown around by the wind, and by wind I mean the world’s opinions and others.
By the unity of faith and the knowledge of the Son of God.
Scripture is the hope of Heaven
1 Corinthians 13:12 CSB
For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, as I am fully known.
All the fullness that a created being can properly comprehend and enjoy. The knowledge of God will not be withheld from us.
All the Frustrating things you face today, will soon be removed in the age to come.
Scripture will be resisted by some
2 Timothy 4:3 CSB
For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear.
We need to know the scriptures so we are not taken off guard or knocked off balance or led away by false teaching. we need to receive the scriptures regularly, to be ready to meet those who refuse to receive.
The right handling of Scripture is approved by God
2 Timothy 2:15 CSB
Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.
We are all assigned to some measure to handle the Word of God. And what a wonderful opportunity it would be to see the Master working pleased to see you correctly teaching and learning the Words of Truth.
Scripture gives and sustains Life
Matthew 4:4 CSB
“Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Deuteronomy 8:3 CSB
He humbled you by letting you go hungry; then he gave you manna to eat, which you and your ancestors had not known, so that you might learn that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Spiritual life, eternal life just like physical life must be feed. Not by bread but by the Words of God.
If you think you have eternal life as a kinda of vaccination against Hell which needs no nourishment, you need to look up what spiritual life truly is.
Reading and understanding and memorizing the scriptures, are essential non negotiable for us as Christians.
These are all great reasons to read the bible.
These next 10 is a list of ways you can study scripture:
SOAP Method: Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer
