THESIS: We notice in the way Jesus taught us how to pray that there is an order of priority in prayer. All of it matters to God and He wants to meet our needs, but the most important prayer is the prayer of adoration. Adoration gives God glory, honor and worship, and it makes all other prayers possible. Challenge the church to appraoch God in adoration.
Prayers Purpose
Prayers purpose is for conversation and encounters with God - Connecting us to the Lord
Adoration is the most important prayer and it makes all the other prayers possible
Introduction:
Recap Grham’s messge - Prayer for God’s presence. Face to face interaction
Effectiveness of your prayers is found in a place for and from God’s presence
I want to build a bit on that
There are alot of different ways and prayers we can pray
Personally I love to pray the way Jesus taught us to pray (Lord’s Prayer)
Matthew 6:9–14 (NKJV)
In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
I beleive Jesus shared this with us to teach us how to pray
It’s an outline
There is alot I could teach, talk and preach about on prayer
How prayer is a conversation with the Lord
How it is also about an encounter with God
The power of prayer - how it moves God’s hand and minsiters miracles
Topic of Discussion:
In the Lord’s prayer Jesus showed us that there is an order of priority in prayer
Adoration
Consecration
Supplication
Intercession
Protecton
Tonight I want to spend a few breif moments on Adoration (Awknowleding who God is) & Consecration (Setting ourselves apart for what He wants)
Before Jesus got to our needs he starts the prayer off with these two essential subjects
I beleive its by this that makes the rest of the prayer possible
When we awknowlege who He is & what He wants
healer as healer
provider as provider
It focuses our heart on Him
It realigns us to the Kingdom
Problem:
Having children I have witnessed first hand the selfishness of humanity
I have never taught them the word “mine” (it’s their favorite word…)
We are naturally selfish, and I think at times it is hard for us to distinguish Our Wants from Our Needs
God wants to meet our needs!! He is called provider for a reason
Eggs can cost $20 a dozen, but He made the chicken
Seek first the Kingdom
Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Sometimes the temtation in prayer is to come to God with our wants without asking Him what He wants
Impact:
When we do that it muddies the water
This is why we may find ourselves frustrated with our walk with God and with our prayers
Project
The Importance of Adoration and Consecration:
Theme of Revival
Pastor Mike said Revival starts with us. It start in our hearts
I wonder what God will do, and show us, and say to us when we start with Awknowleding Who He is & What He wants...
You can still pray for you needs
But by the time you Adore God and Consecrate you discover your desires become His desires
Action Steps:
Next 20 min of individual prayer
Lets awtake a moment and awknowledge God
Lets Pray for His Kingdome to come
Ask Him what that looks like and what He wants
Start your prayer off strong
Feel free to walk around, read your Bible but lets take a moment and seek Him!
