The House on the Rock
The House on the Rock
To build our house on the rock, we must hear and obey the words of Christ.
Mark 1:15 “and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.””
See Ephesians 2:8-10...
True belief in Christ always produces obedience.
James 2:17–18 “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
John 14:15 ““If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us.”
See 2 Corinthians 5:14-17...
The storms of life don’t destroy the believer.
James 1:2–3 “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”
See 1 Peter 1:6–7...
The storms of judgment won’t destroy believers, for they are not destined for wrath.
1 Thessalonians 5:9 “For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
The House on the Sand
The House on the Sand
The one who hears but does not obey Christ is building their house on the sand.
1 Corinthians 3:11 “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Luke 6:46 ““Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” (See Matthew 7:21)
A house may look sturdy, but if it doesn’t have a strong foundation it will fall.
Proverbs 30:12 “There are those who are clean in their own eyes but are not washed of their filth.”
2 Timothy 3:5 “having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.”
Titus 1:16 “They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.”
James 2:19–20 “You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?”
Many false believers have been revealed through the storms of life.
See Matthew 13:20-22...
All who have the foundation of sand will fall on the Day of Judgment.
Romans 2:5 “But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.”
Revelation 20:15 “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
