10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Identifying Your Enemy
Identifying Your Enemy
We are all in a fight, but can you identify who your true enemy is?
A lot of Christians by default credit what is good to God, but we often hesitate recognizing the enemy when we are being attacked.
Hear how Jesus speaks of the devil: John 8:44 “44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
Satan is a liar and a deceiver because that is how he steals souls, and lead people into sin.
So what’s one of Satan’s best ways of deceiving? To focus your attention, your anger and hatred, your resentment on just the person who has wronged you.
Every criminal has a story — the sin problem is highlighted in wicked individuals but the problem is far greater and wickedness is a scheme of a greater enemy.
As we go through the story of Exodus you’ll see how there is an enemy much worse than the slave driving Egyptians and the egomaniacal Pharaoh.
Many of you know that it’s in the desert when the true enemy begins to invade the camp of Israel in the form of sin - specifically lack of faith and idolatry.
Ephesians 6:10–13 “10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
The battle is always spiritual, and the battleground is your soul.
It’s sounds pretty crazy but I’m not being dramatic.
Every struggle matters in the life of a Christian because of its effect on your spiritual wellbeing.
The True Victory
The True Victory
Luke 10:17–20 “17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” 18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.””
God responds to your need for help.
Exodus 14:15–20 “15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.” 19 Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.”
1 John 4:4-6 “4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.”
