Kairos is one of the most interesting experiences, I believe any person can have.
What makes it most interesting is that in order for God to do What God does, Every participant on the team, the inside part and the outside part must do their task.
Must play their Role.
Must do what they are assigned to Do.
In my 4 or so weekends that I have participated one of the miraculous things that I have seen is Christian Brothers and Sisters, from ALL Different denominations, Walking together in UNITY to bring the weekend together.
Here in the western expressions of Church, where smallest and most insignificant difference of interpretation of the Holy Scriptures can erupt a room full of a family of faith and make them a feud of fighters.
Bringing division and the launching of who knew denominations of Churches.
Churches and people who gather is separatist groups that Say “We are Right and they are wrong” Join us for we are right”
Now don't get me wrong - Doctrine must and needs to divide orthodoxy from non-orthodoxy or we can say in the plain language -Straight biblical historical beliefs from Bent of crooked non- biblical non-historical Christianity.
But what is fascinating about a Kairos weekend - and Everyone of the weekends that I have had the great privilege of serving on
- IS there are men and women in this room from these differing denominations that truly know Jesus, Truly know salvation and they come together in unity to make this ministry happen and the Gospel of Jesus Christ goes forward.
The Question is HOW does this happen?
What is the Key ingredient that causes this phenomenon to occur?
You might say: “Well pastor it is the unity of the Spirit that causes that to Happen!”
To which I will say “Yes and Amen but there is something else”
You might say: Pastor it is UNITY that causes it to happen!”
To which I would say “Yes it is but what Causes the unity?”
To Which you might say “Pastor that is what the Spirit brings is the unity”
TO which I would say “How does the Spirit Bring Unity?”
Let me place this oh so gently in front of you this day.
The Thing that The Holy Spirit Does, through the work of the Gospel, in the life and heart of the Believer is it conforms us to the image of Jesus.
And Jesus, Came as a servant, in fact He said
English Standard Version Chapter 10
43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
The words That Jesus used in the original language of the Day when he said “Servant and “Slave of all” are two different words.
Servant - We get the we get the Church word “Deacon” from. In the language of the Day it was used with the idea of “Waiting tables” a wait staff person who would bring you a meal.
The Second Word Slave was a word that was used to describe the lowest for of slavery in the first century.
A word used to describe human being that were purchased as chattel in the market place as property - With no rights and no choices and no individualism.
And we might think to ourselves “Slaves of all?” does Jesus call us to be slaves?
Here is what is interesting about humanity - Every single one of us human beings - Saved or Not - We are Slaves to something
In Romans Paul would say this:
16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
He Goes on:
20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.
You see loved ones - When the Son set you free you are free indeed to be Slaves of Righteousness.
The Apostle Paul - Whom most of us know at one time was a Pharisee names Saul - AS Saul was a serial Killer of Christians - Who had Paower and Influance and access to political and religous leaders and wealth - A man of Means!
Jesus Got a Hold of Him and Changed everything about Saul - Gave Him a new name Paul - Gave Him a new Occupation - Disciple Maker and Church planter and team leader.
When Paul needed to Write some letters of Encouragement - Some Letters of Correction - Some Letters of Reminder - to those people whom Paul had led to the Lord and the Churches they were leading -
Listen to how He referred to Himself and those who worked along side himself.
1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,
To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:
7 just as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf
Multiple times and in multiple ways Paul, Peter, James, Jude and John the Apostle All referred to themselves and Others that served along Side themselves as Slaves of Jesus - Bond Servants - Fellow Bond Servants - Laborers and Co-Laborers in the advancement of the Gospel.
AS you read the new testament You will hear words Like
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
IF you want to know what the Spirit does in the hear of Every Kairos team member it bring the unity and the comrodery and the togetherness needed to see the Glory of God and the Power of God work the way He will on this weekend?
We must become a Bond Slave to Jesus -
When bond slave - We put aside anything that we prefer -
We put down any method we have in mind -
We put down any previous ways that we have been comfortable with.
We put down any inclining of self and we live a complete life of servanthood to Jesus.
Your handout says “Servant-hood”
Through the process of development and training and apprenticing - God uses The Kairos Weekend to produce Leaders for the weekend. Men and women who have spent years in training, hours in development and countless hours in prayer and strategic planning to execute a Kairos weekend.
The Writer in Hebrews reminds us of how as Christ Bond Slaves we are to interact with leaders.
17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
When we come to the Kairos weekend - We must remember what Kairos means - It is God’s time.
It is God's time not just for the 42 participants - Loved ones it is God's time for all of us as well.
When we come to the Kairos weekend we must, as really we must do in all of life as born again believers in Christ,
We must come to the weekend as Bond Slaves of Jesus. Crucified with Christ - Regenerated unto new life by the Power of the Holy Spirit.
God’s workmanship Created in Christ Jesus for the Good works that God has planned in advance for us that we should walk in them the Scripture Says!
Loved ones - This Kairos weekend Was on God’s calendar several millennia ago.
He plan this - He designed this - He called the Church together to do this - And he has called each one of us as his bond servants to serve Jesus each and every day of our lives - So let it be shown this weekend!
So Our servanthood to Jesus will seen by these leaders and consequently it will be seen by the Participants and the Love of Christ Jesus will freely flow through the selfless movement of all of us to them and everyone around us as we proclaim the Goodness of God and the Gospel to a lost and dying world.
For the remainder of our time for this devotional - look through the Work sheet that you have at your table and meditate on the word of scripture.
