Introduction

So today we have our kid’s service but we are going to look more at how we live in the here and now. How we can be more like Jesus.
If you have your Bibles we will start with
Ephesians 5:1–2 NIV
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
This isn’t a hard command to follow right? Follow God’s example. If we could just figure this out, think about how much different the world would be. Here is one of the great things about Jesus. We can follow God’s example because of Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God, Jesus is God. So we see how the Father is because of Jesus. So walk in love. How do we carry ourselves in the world? Are we walking in that Jesus did? Are we looking to help people, are we looking to be people that we can count on ?
Ephesians 5:4–5 NIV
Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Like we talked about last week with the encouraging verse. This is another one that is a sore spot for me. What kind of words are we using with each other? How should we speak to each other? Should we use bad words? Or should we look at all situations and see how God is working?
Ephesians 5:6–7 NIV
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them.
This is a tough one no matter how old you are. So what are some good examples of people that we should listen to? Make sure to say great-grandparents.
What about if one of our friends wants us to break the rules in class? In your life even as kids, who you listen to is very important. As you get older it only gets more important. Even when you are an old person like, it is important who you listen. So who should we listen to first? God, then the people that love us. Sometimes that means they might tell us something that we don’t want to hear right? But a person that loves will make sure we do that. Even God will tell you things, and they can be tough things. Who you listen to will make a big impact on your life.
Ephesians 5:8–10 NIV
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.
Live as Children of light. We have talked about this a lot. You are Children of God. We all are. So each day, how should we try to live our lives? What if we make a mistake? It is ok to make mistakes right? If you don’t make mistakes then you aren’t really trying that hard right ?
Ephesians 5:13 NIV
But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.
Talk about intregrity and doing what is right when no one is looking. The actions you take or don’t take become who you are. This is why it is important for us to walk with love. and to live like Jesus did.
Ephesians 5:14 NIV
This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
