New Birth and Faith Verse 1
Verse 1
Everyone who believes Jesus is the Christ = Faith
is Born of God = New Birth
New Birth Proceeds the Faith
Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Then he equates Belief that Jesus is the Christ
with everyone who loves the Father
Knowing that the Father allowed us to see the beauty of the Son redeeming us by His love causing Love to spring up within us
Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me.
We are Born Again through faith in Jesus allowing us to understand the Love of God and we in turn Love the Father for the Gift leading us to Love our brothers and sisters in Christ understanding all we have been forgiven.
Loving God and Keeping His Commandments Verse 2
Loving God and Keeping His Commandments Verse 2
but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.
How do we know we love the Children of God
by loving God and keeping his commandments to love each other as Jesus loved us.
His Commandments are not Burdensome Verse 3
His Commandments are not Burdensome Verse 3
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
“For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
“They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger.
The Pharisees loaded the people down with requirements to keep the law of Moses
The Mishnah was a book of Jewish Oral Law with commentary on how to keep the 613 commandments of the Torah which are the first five books of the Bible. The Talmud is a collections of rabbinic commentary on a proper understanding of the Mishnah written over the centuries showing how to be a Jew in a post temple era.
But what really makes the law of Jesus Burdensome
We need to go back to
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
When you Joyfully obey the commandments of God you are set free from the burdens
Have you Overcome the World or are the Commandments of God Burdensome? Verse 4
Have you Overcome the World or are the Commandments of God Burdensome? Verse 4
Here we have a return to Verse 1 Like book ends to drive home the truth of this Scripture
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
The world is exposed as unsatisfying.
