Ephesians 2:1–10 NIV84
1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

1. Awake: Recognize the need for Christ

A. Recognize the need for spiritual awakening

Ephesians 2:1 “1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,”
Ephesians 5:14 “14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.””

B. Open hearts to receive the Gospel message

Acts 16:14 “14 One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.
Ephesians 2:2 “2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”

C. Create curiosity about spiritual matters

John 4:10 “10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.””
Ephesians 2:4–5 “4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”

2. Assimilate: Grow in Christ

A. Embrace our new position in Christ

Ephesians 2:6 “6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,”

B. Attend regular Bible study and prayer

2 Timothy 3:16–17 “16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

C. Continue in church fellowship

Hebrews 10:24–25 “24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

3. Arm: Equip for Good Works

A. Prepare for the works God has planned

Ephesians 2:10 “10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

B. Equipped for the work of ministry

Ephesians 4:11–12 “11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up”

C. Bring unity to the Faith and Knowledge of Jesus

Ephesians 4:13 “13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

4. Ambassadors: Share the Gospel of Jesus

A. Proclaim the message of reconciliation

2 Corinthians 5:19 “19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”

B. Be ambassadors for Christ

2 Corinthians 5:20 “20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”

C. Make disciples of all nations

Matthew 28:19–20 “19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””
This four-step process - Awake, Assimilate, Arm, and Ambassadors - outlines the transformative journey from spiritual death to becoming a disciple of Christ. It reflects God's incredible work in our lives, from awakening us to our need for Him, to equipping us for His service, and finally sending us out to share His love with others. As we progress through these stages, we become active participants in God's grand harvest, bringing more souls into His kingdom. Let us embrace this process with confidence, knowing that it is God who works in us, both to will and to act according to His good purpose (Philippians 2:13).
