What do I need to know?
What do I need to know?
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
Everyone has a gift
The gift is recieved from God not our own
We use the gift to serve others not build ourselves up
Stewards are people who do not own anything but take care of what is God’s
God has designed the church as a place where everyone serves each other
Let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.

Well for the last two weeks we’ve been talking about Biblical community.
And we found out that God’s design for the church was not just that you come here and have fun and mess around or even just listen to whoever is on stage.
But actually God designed the church to be real relationships with real people.
The church is a place where you get to have serious conversations about life and faith and God with other believers.

This is true, but it is not God’s only intention or design for the church.
Like there are multiple purposes of the church.
One huge misconception that people have about church is that you come just to watch and see the performance.
Right like some people kind of treat church like a concert because you get to list to some music and then somebody gets on stage and talks.
And instead of really participating in the church they end up just being a spectator.
But what you need to know is that God did not design the church to be something that is just watched or consumed.
Instead if you are a follower of Jesus, you are called to serve.
And we’re about to read that in

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
So this is a really short verse and there is only three parts to it.
The first thing you need to notice is that everyone has a gift.
There is not a single person that is exempt or doesn’t have to serve because they’re not good at anything.
These gifts that God has given us look different for everyone.
Maybe you love computers and tech and you’re really smart with that stuff. Well, we would love to teach you how to use some of these tech things and give you the opportunity to serve.
Maybe you love hanging out with younger kids or you’ve got little siblings so you’re good at taking care of young kids.
Well, we have 500 kids every single Sunday and we need you’re help to love them all.
Maybe you aren’t good with computers and you don’t like kids, but you can smile and open a door.
Everyone can do something and God has called every believer to serve.
The Bible teaches that you and the person sitting next to you and everybody here has some gift that God has given them for a purpose.
And that purpose is the next part of our verse.
“Use it to serve one another.”
The purpose of these gifts that every single person has is not that we would be better people or that we would have fun or be cool or anything about us.
The purpose of your gifting is for you to serve other people.
God has designed the church not to be consumers or spectators, He has designed them to be servants.
And the last thing that you need to know about this verse is that we are serving because of God’s grace not our own goodness.
Christian service does not come from yourself.
As followers of Jesus we serve other people because Jesus first served us.
