What is a friend?

A friend is another self
A friend is someone that doesn’t have to be in relationship with you, but chooses you, and you them.
A friend is rare because friends have things in common, and the better the friends, the higher the things you have in common!
For example, the Saints are the best of friends, because they share heaven together, they share the most important thing, which is love of Christ! Love of their God together.
“Father, I can’t go to confession with you because we are friends.”

What does your friend help you with?

A friend helps you to see!
Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible
Christ is the light of the world, our goal is to make Him known, but this time of discipleship is for you to get accustomed to the light. Do you like the light or do you prefer the darkness? What do your friends prefer?!
John the Serene -
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The spiritual man who has been thus illumined does not limp or leave the path, but bears all things. Glimpsing our true country from afar, he puts up with adversities; he is not saddened by the things of time, but finds his strength in God. He lowers his pride and endures, possessing patience through humility. That true light which enlightens every man who comes into the world bestows itself on those who reverence it, shining where it wills, on whom it wills, and revealing itself according to the will of God the Son.” (3rd Thursday of OT, OofR)

Hebrews 10

love,
encourage,
ROUSE one another to good works
“Who can ascend the mountain of the LORD?
or who may stand in his holy place?
He whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean,
who desires not what is vain.

Chrysostom

“And let us consider,” he says, “how to stir up one another to love and good works.” He knew that this also arises from “meeting together.” For as “iron sharpens iron,” so also association increases love. For if a stone rubbed against a stone sends forth fire, how much more will soul mingled with soul! But not unto emulation [imitation/competition], he says, but “unto the sharpening of love.” What is this? It means to love more, and to be loved more. ON THE EPISTLE TO THE HEBREWS 19.2–3.

What is the best movie on friendship?

Lord of the Rings - Obviously and at the end of the second movie, The Two Towers

Sam tackled Frodo right before the Ringwraith attacked him and the ring was conquering his will to put on the ring. So Frodo was so possessed that he was going to slay Sam with his sword, Sting…
Sam: “It’s me, its your Sam!”
Frodo dropping the sword: “I can’t do this anymore!”
Sam: It’s all wrong By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam : That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.
