How many of you here like Spiderman?
As a superhero, Spiderman have many powers, right?
Like shooting webs, crawling on walls,
and he’s got this spider-sense that tingles,
whenever danger is near him.
We are not Spiderman,
but we’ve got someone better,
God himself, through His Holy Spirit,
who guides us to do good.
Our scripture passage today comes from Galatians 6:10.
It says, “So then, as we have opportunity,
let us do good to everyone,
and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
God the Holy Spirit works in everyone,
but especially in Christians who belong to household of faith.
As a person listens to the Holy Spirit and takes the opportunity to do good,
he becomes more and more like God, who does good.
And especially for Christians who do good,
Whether to other Christians, who are their brothers and sisters in Christ,
but also to other non-Christians,
so that everyone can see the love of God through our good deeds.
Doing good can mean practising the value of empathy,
listening quietly to a friend or a teacher who looks sad, lonely, or angry.
or treating a friend to a snack at the canteen when they lost their wallet.
or even standing up against a bully, knowing that you might be hit.
Doing good can also mean helping someone who doesn’t know that they need help.
Like offering to hold the door for a teacher who’s struggling with many books.
Like offering to wash the dishes after dinner,
when you see your mother busy talking with guests.
Or even like participating or starting projects to improve SAJS for everyone.
But what if I’m not a Christian?
Can I still do good?
Of course, you can!
And you can too, in the same ways I’ve suggested.
But especially to the Christians, to those who believe in Jesus, I want to encourage you.
Listen to God’s Holy Spirit.
Ask him for opportunities to do good.
And do good with a cheerful and thankful heart.
Do good, in thanksgiving for God who has fearfully and wonderfully made you.
Do good, in thanksgiving for Jesus, who loves you and died for you.
And do good, in thanksgiving for the many good things God has given you.
Do good, as we have opportunity, to everyone.
