Favor of God
Favor of God
Introduction:
We’ve been on a journey. We started with Provision—God meeting our needs.
Then we stepped into Overflow—having more than enough so we can bless others.
But today? Today, we’re going to talk about The Blessing—not just having enough for today, but leaving something that outlives us.
Because let’s be real—God doesn’t want to just bless you; He wants to bless through you. The blessing isn’t just about what you receive—it’s about what you pass on.
Let’s start with a promise God gave to Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3
I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Did you catch that?
God doesn’t just bless us for us—He blesses us for others.
The real question isn’t, “God, what can You give me?”
It’s, “God, how can I be a blessing?”
Transition:
We are going to look at three key points about the blessing that every believer needs to know.
Main Points:
Point #1: The Blessing is Bigger Than You
The Blessing is Bigger Than You
The Blessing is Bigger Than You
Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands.
Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever.
Did you notice the pattern?
God blesses you so that your children—and their children—walk in that same blessing.
God blesses you so that your children—and their children—walk in that same blessing.
The blessing isn’t just personal. It’s generational.
Think about it—everything we do is planting a seed.
The choices you make today don’t just affect you.
They affect your kids, your grand kids, and generations after you.
Illustration:
Have you ever seen a tree so big that it provides shade for everyone around it?
That’s the kind of blessing God wants to grow in you.
Not just a small potted plant of blessing.
A massive, unshakable tree that provides for generations.
Question to ask yourself:
Am I living for my comfort today, or am I planting seeds for God’s Kingdom tomorrow?
Point #2: The Blessing Flows Through You
The Blessing Flows Through You
The Blessing Flows Through You
“For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Here’s what I love—when you walk in the blessing, everything around you changes.
The problem is, we often think of blessing as something we hold onto instead of something we pass on.
We pray, “God, bless my job,” but what if God wants to bless your company through you?
We ask, “God, bless my finances,” but what if God is saying, “I want to bless people through your generosity”?
Biblical Example:
Remember Joseph? (Genesis 41) He stored grain in Egypt, and when the famine hit, he didn’t just have enough for himself—he had enough to feed entire nations.
That’s the blessing. Not just enough for you, but more than enough to change the world around you.
Illustration:
Think about water. If it stops flowing, it becomes stagnant. Gross. Mosquito-infested. But when water flows, it brings life.
The blessing works the same way. If you try to hoard it, it becomes stagnant. But when you let it flow, it brings life to everything it touches.
Point #3: The Blessing Leaves a Lasting Legacy
The Blessing Leaves a Lasting Legacy
The Blessing Leaves a Lasting Legacy
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
Here’s what’s crazy—most people think about leaving money as their legacy. But the greatest inheritance you can leave isn’t money.
It’s faith. It’s character. It’s a life that points people to Jesus.
It’s faith. It’s character. It’s a life that points people to Jesus.
Illustration:
Imagine your great-grandkids reading about your life one day. Will they see a story of faith, generosity, and impact? Or will they just see someone who worked, paid bills, and passed on?
What do you want to be remembered for?
Do you want to be known as someone who took or someone who gave?
Do you want to be a drain or a spring?
Do you want to be remembered as someone who accumulated stuff or someone who changed lives?
Because here’s the truth:
You don’t take blessings with you when you die. You pass them on while you live.
Conclusion: Live in the Blessing, Be the Blessing
Conclusion: Live in the Blessing, Be the Blessing
The blessing of God isn’t about what you get—it’s about what you give.
Provision is where we start.
Overflow is when we have more than enough.
The Blessing? That’s when we become a source of God’s goodness for others.
Call to Action:
Look at your life. Ask yourself, “Am I receiving God’s blessing, or am I hoarding it?”
Ask God how you can be a blessing. Maybe it’s mentoring, giving, or simply serving someone this week.
Start living beyond yourself. Create a legacy that outlives you.
Final Thought:
Imagine standing before God one day, and He says,
"Well done, good and faithful servant. Because of you, generations were blessed."
That’s the life we’re called to live. That’s the blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your blessing—not just for us, but for others. Give us eyes to see how we can be a blessing. Help us to live generously, to create a legacy that points to You, and to walk in the fullness of what You have planned for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
