The Blessed And The Wicked

Introducing

THE OPENING BLESSING of the psalm (ʾašre) is common enough in the wisdom teaching of the Old Testament

The word “blessed” conveys the idea of happiness that flows from a sense of well-being and rightness

I. A Blessed Person Do Not Compromise (vv. 1).

A. Christian does not walk the way the wicked person walks. “Counsel” (advise; plan, decide). [Psalm 5:9 “There is nothing reliable in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction itself. Their throat is an open grave; They flatter with their tongue.”

B. The Christian way is not a wicked way. Psalm 119:104 “From Your precepts I get perception; Therefore I hate every false way.”

C. Christian does not join with the mockers. Psalm 26:4 “I do not sit with worthless men, And I will not go with pretenders.”

The positive exhortation leads to a negative example. This is a lifestyle to be avoided, not emulated.

II. A Blessed Person Delights in God’s Word (v. 2).

A. He mediates Daily (V.2b).

B. His sould is well founded, “firmly planted” (v. 3)

c. His soul is well provided, “by the stream of water” (v.3b).

D. He is christian life is productive, “which yield its fruits in its season”(v.3c).

E. His Spirit does not wither, “its leaf does not wither’ (v. 3d).

F. He excel in whaetever he does, “he prosper”(v. 3e).

III. A Wicked Person is Spiritually Unstable (v. 4)

A. They are Lifelesss, “like a chaff”(v.4a)

B. No Spiritual Foundation, “the wind drives away”(v. 4c).

C. They cannot stand on the Judgment Day (v. 5).

-Yahweh has made Himself known; He has executed judgment. In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared. (Psa. 9:16).

C. They cannot stay longer in the church, “not the sinners in the congregation of righteos” (v. 5b).

IV. The Lord knows our ways (v. 6).

The Lord knows that a wicked person and his ways are designed for condemnation. Why? It’s because the wicked person loves himself, Loves his fleshly pleasures more than His Word and His Church.

My friend, are you the kind of this person? Can you be sure you can stand on the judgment day? can you be sure that you are standing with the church of God?

You can lie to your family, to your friends, or to your church. But you cannot lie to God. Your sins will eventually be revealed. My friend, this is the moment of repentance and restoration.

My friend, if you are this kind of person God wants you to repent... and be restored. Because if not...you are a stumbling block and dangerous to the church the GOd.

The Lord knows that the righteous Person loves Him, delights in His Holy Word, and stands with Holy Church.
