Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Jesus Christ, The Same!
Have you ever sat and thought about your life? I mean really, focused on your life. I don't mean just looking at what happened the other day, but really reflected on the whole of your life?
The other day as I sat thinking about my life, I was flooded with emotions. I couldn't help but think about where I came from and what I've been through and what I've experienced and what I've seen and what I've learned and what I've shared and how I've failed and how I've succeeded and how I've met this person and how I've done this thing and where I have traveled and where I have stayed and the many ways I've gotten to where I was going; plane, car, train, boat, bicycle, foot. I don't
know if you've ever really thought about it, about your life.
I have and when I do, I get the sneaky suspension that there was and is and will always be someone greater: Jesus Christ. Every day I am reminded that “it’s in Christ that I live, move, and have my being…” I want to tell you today, that we serve a God that is the same.
This is not only a good text; it’s a good news text. The aim of Hebrews is to establish Jesus, His priesthood, sacrifice, and covenant, as the sure foundation of our faith. And when you know Jesus as the foundation of your faith, nothing can shake you. You become “like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” Jesus Christ, the same.
No doubt the saints of old believed in the unchangeableness of Jesus Christ and the clear point of the statement is Christ. They lived and died in the faith that Jesus is The Christ—the Messiah. Hence the writer says, “hold fast and imitate their faith in Jesus as the Christ. He is ever the same. Jesus Christ must be to you, today, what he was to them, yesterday, and what he will be forever to all those who put their faith in him—Christ.
It’s important to know that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday because yesterday is when He showed us in history what He did for us. Christ’s work of YESTERDAY was to suffer for our sins on the cross (1 Peter 2:24 “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed”).
It’s important to know that Jesus Christ is the same today as he was yesterday because today is that have fellowship with him and can know him as our Savior by reading about his life and work from yesterday. His work of TODAY is to serve as our immediate Savior (Heb. 7:25 “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them”).
It’s important to know that Jesus Christ is the same tomorrow as he was yesterday and today because our hope for everlasting life is ultimately tied to him. His work of TOMORROW is to return and conclude God’s saving purposes (Heb. 9:28 “so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation”).
Therefore, Jesus never needs to be replaced, and his work needs nothing added to maintain its perfection.
Jesus Christ, the same. His love is the same; His righteousness is the same; His wisdom is the same; His power is the same, His compassion is the same, His forgiveness is the same, His healing is the same, His blessings are the same, His peace is the same, His protection is the same. Jesus Christ the same.
Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde … who is the example of John 8:31-32 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
The story is told of a pastor that resigned from a church after several years of pastoring. One of the members said to him, “I don’t see how I’m going to make it without you! I depend so much on you for my spiritual help!” The pastor replied. “Then the sooner I leave, the sooner you can start depending on the Lord. Never build your life on any servant of God. Build your life on Jesus Christ. He never
changes.”
He is the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
He is the keeper of creation, and the Creator of all.
He is the architect of the universe.
He always was, he always is, and he always will be.
Unmoved, unchanged, undefeated and never undone or outdone.
He was bruised and brought healing. He was pierced and eased pain. He was persecuted and brought freedom. He died and brought life. He rose and brought power. He reigns and brought peace.
The world can’t understand him. The armies can’t defeat him. The schools can’t explain him, and
The leaders can’t ignore him.
The Pharisees couldn’t confuse him.
Herod couldn’t kill him.
Nero couldn’t crush him.
Hitler couldn’t silence him.
The New Age can’t replace him.
The grave couldn’t hold him.
His will is unchanging, and his mind is on me.
Won’t he be your Redeemer.
Won’t he be your Savior.
Won’t he be your Guide.
Won’t he be your Peace.
Won’t he be your Joy.
Won’t he be your Comfort.
Won’t he be your Lord.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Won’t he do it, won’t he do it, say ya yeah, yes, yes. I know he’s all right.
