Introduction:
Introduction:
When Jesus was teaching about discipleship, a wealthy ruler asked, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Luke 18:18).
The ruler was an honorable man and told Jesus he had not committed any major crimes. Perhaps he thought he was already approved for eternal life.
Jesus commended him, but said he lacked one thing. “Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me” (Luke 18:22).
Unfortunately, he walked away from Jesus sad because he was “very wealthy” and was unwilling to give up his wealth (Luke 18:23).
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

The man that found the treasure in a field was probably a field hand
The merchant was probably a jeweler.
Pearls were highly valued by the wealthy in the times of Jesus.
This man was a great businessman and realized the value of the pearl
