Abiding in the vine

The setting: Jesus is on the way to leave the disciples and giving them some of his final words before departure. Jesus has already stated that he would not leave them alone, but will give them a helper to be in them while he will be with the father. This helper will bring to remembrance all the things that he has told them. He is talking to the people of Isreal and more specifically the 12.
Due to the nature of the impending situation i would say these are vital words as the one who would rebuke, correct and speak with authority is leaving.
In this chapter you will notice a lot of repeated themes

15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him

God as the Vine-dresser - One who looks for the product of the work that has been done. One who care for the seed. The one who plants the vineyard. John 15:2
John 15:2 ESV
Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Jesus as the Vine- The source of life to the branches. Provides the nutrients and determines the success of fruit production. In connection to the vine or fellowship with the vine. The promised seed is the vine. John 15:1
John 15:1 ESV
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
John 15:3 ESV
Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
John 8:37 ESV
I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.
John 13:8–10 ESV
Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.”
