Remodel 2025..................
Party With a Pastor
This week we are going to conclude chapter 11. This is more than just the conclusion of a chapter however it is the conclusion of the first section of Matthew’s writing.
From Matthew 1 to Matthew 11, has been the presentation of the Messiah and His Kingdom to Isreal. Matthew has showed how Jesus has checked every box...........
As we have studied we have looked at the region in which Jesus has done his ministry.
By the Sea of Galilee, an area where the least of these were known to live. The idea appears to have been that Jesus’ plan was to bring the people of this region into His knew Kingdom and then take the Kingdom into Jerusalem where the Religious leaders resided.
However, as we are going to see, a large number did repent and turn to Jesus, the masses would in turn reject Jesus as Messiah.
Now Today we are going to look at three sections of Scripture and break those sections down.
Let’s start with our first section.
16 “To what should I compare this generation? It’s like children sitting in the marketplaces who call out to other children:
17 We played the flute for you, but you didn’t dance; we sang a lament, but you didn’t mourn!
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
Pray:
Jesus compares this generation to children that do not know how to properly react to the circumstances going on around them.
We made the rules to the game and you did not play your part.
Kid’s and Pretend.........
We played Happy Music and you Didn’t Dance.......
We Played Sad Music and you Didn’t Mourn.........
He is pointing out that the rules of the Pharisees are ever changing in order to allow in who they wanted to allow in and push out who they wanted to push out.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’
John followed the crazy fasting rules and they call him a Demon
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
Jesus came and he did not follow the Fasting Practices outlined in the Mishna, He did not abstain from Alcohol, and he ate with people that the Religious Leadership had dubbed as UNCLEAN.
In Result they called Him a Glutton and a Drunkard..........
Then Jesus Ends this with the Phrase
19b Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
As I studied this I found that it is believed that Jesus is pointing them to
1 There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven:
2 a time to give birth and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to uproot;
3 a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build;
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance;
5 a time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing;
6 a time to search and a time to count as lost; a time to keep and a time to throw away;
7 a time to tear and a time to sew; a time to be silent and a time to speak;
8 a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.
9 What does the worker gain from his struggles?
10 I have seen the task that God has given the children of Adam to keep them occupied.
11 He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also put eternity in their hearts, but no one can discover the work God has done from beginning to end.
12 I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and enjoy the good life.
13 It is also the gift of God whenever anyone eats, drinks, and enjoys all his efforts.
14 I know that everything God does will last forever; there is no adding to it or taking from it. God works so that people will be in awe of him.
15 Whatever is, has already been, and whatever will be, already is. However, God seeks justice for the persecuted.
Let whoever has ears to Hear, Hear.
Now let’s move to the Second Section of Scripture:
20 Then he proceeded to denounce the towns where most of his miracles were done, because they did not repent:
Before we go any further let’s take a look at this word Repent:
So many of us look at it and expect a weeping, grief filled appology when we think of repentance........
However, the Word Repent comes for the Greek word Meanoeo.
Metanoeo
Metanoeo
Which Means to Change One’s Mind.......
It has nothing to do with emotion.
It is an intellectual response.
Now an intellectual response can evoke emotion but often times emotion is not grounded in anything intellectual.
21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes long ago.
22 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until today.
24 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
Chorazin, Bethesida, and Capernaum were all Jewish City’s on the North side of the Sea of Galilee.
Bethesida was the home of Peter and Andrew......
Tyre and Sidon are Gentile City’s
Sodom ........
So what Jesus is saying is To whom much is given much is expected.
You saw signs and wonders yet you didn’t repent and therefore your punishment will be greater.
But What Punishment.
11 Then I saw a great white throne and one seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.
12 I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged according to their works by what was written in the books.
13 Then the sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them; each one was judged according to their works.
14 Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
15 And anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
If we take a deeper look at this we see that evidently there are going to be degrees of Punishment in the Lake of Fire......…
Then in this final Section Matthew records Jesus’ Prayer.
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to infants.
26 Yes, Father, because this was your good pleasure.
27 All things have been entrusted to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
28 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
He hides himself from over religious, arrogant individuals who trust their own wisdom and intelligence over relationship with God.
Only those who are sensitive to the call of the Holy Spirit will be drawn. Why because there Hearts are Open to a changed mind.
28 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
The yoke spoken here is referring to a teaching from a Rabbi.
Whatever, Rabbi you were Studying from you would take on His Yoke.
Jesus is inviting the people to leave the school of the Pharisees and Religious Leaders.
Whose Yoke was full of Burden......
And Come to his School where the Burden was light.
We are all Yoked to something..............
What are you going to choose to be yoked too?
