In my meditations this week...
...drawn to Ps 119:114-117
You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in your word.
Depart from me, you evildoers,
that I may keep the commandments of my God.
Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live,
and let me not be put to shame in my hope!
Hold me up, that I may be safe
and have regard for your statutes continually!
i want to read for you my meditation for this passage...
… i have been drawn to the idea of writing out my meditations as if the Lord is talking to me...
My child,
I am a safe place for you to dwell, I am your hiding place, your shield, a place of security, a place you can rest.
You may dwell with me as long as you want, you may dwell with me forever. I am steadfast and sure, and my arms will always be open.
My child, i understand that there are forces trying to pull you away from me every day.
Everyday you experience temptations, desires to pursue worldly beliefs. You have to fight against this every day.
But do not fear little one, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.
For I am with you, I am your strength, I am your hope, I will not let you be put to shame, I will uphold you.
As you faithfully pursue me, as you trust in my words, you will enjoy My embrace.
Because of Christ...
...we have been given a unique and completely undeserved opportunity...
..an opportunity to commune with… to enjoy the presence of the Lord of all...
...the Holy of Holies… the creator and master of all the universe...
we are invited into a relationship with the LORD...
...a relationship as described in ps 119...
...we can experience the supreme and steadfast love of the King of kings...
...He is our hiding place… our shield...
…this is a relationship where we are upheld... and protected… and cared for...
We get to enjoy this personal experience with the supreme God...
...we get to call Him Father…
Because of the New covenant...
...because of what Christ came and accomplished on the cross...
...and it is what we are remembering here today...
But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,
“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,”
then he adds,
“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
this passage shows us...
...that the plan of God for our salvation has come to pass...
...that we now have access to the presence of God the Father...
...that we now… because of Christ… get to securely and with full assurance… draw near to our Heavenly Father...
we have been blessed beyond measure...
...we have been adopted...
...we are now the children of the Most High God...
...and we get to enjoy all the blessings of that title...
...and this has absolutely nothing to do with us...
...nothing to do with our performance...
...nothing to do with our merit…
but it happened simply because the Holy trinity loves us...
servers come...
And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
Holding the piece of bread… and the cup of juice… in our hands this am...
...helps us remember why we are able to enjoy the presence of our Heavenly Father so freely...
… why we are able to experience His tender mercy and grace and steadfast love… each and every day...
this is what I want you to dwell on this am...
...how deep must the Love of our Father be...
...that He was willing to and did send His Son...
...His perfect Son...
...to die… that we may live...
...How great a love Jesus must Have for us...
...that He was willing to set aside all He did...
...and suffer all He did...
...to make a way for us to be able to experience and enjoy the love of the creator...
each and every one of us...
...has the ability to pursue… talk to… hear… rest in… and dwell with...
...the Lord of all… the King of Kings...
...because of Christ...
… because of the Holy Spirit...
As you consume the bread...and the juice...
...as it becomes a part of you...
...think about what Christ did...
...to make this our reality...
the bread...
...represents the body of Christ, given to be broken for you… take and eat...
the cup...
...the juice… represents the blood of Christ...poured out for you…
...putting into effect… the new covenant… that makes a way for us to be able to call the Holy God… Abba Father… take and drink...
Pray
AMEN
