There is an admonition that is untimely, but the silent person is the wise one.
It is much better to admonish than to lose one’s temper;
one who admits a fault will be kept from disgrace.
Like a eunuch lusting to violate a young woman is the one who does right under compulsion.
One is silent and is thought wise; another, for being talkative, is disliked.
One is silent, having nothing to say; another is silent, biding his time.
The wise remain silent till the right time comes, but a boasting fool misses the proper time.
Whoever talks too much is detested; whoever pretends to authority is hated.
There is the misfortune that brings success; and there is the gain that turns into loss.
There is the gift that profits you nothing, and there is the gift that must be paid back double.
There is the loss for the sake of glory, and there is the one who rises above humble circumstances.
There is one who buys much for little, but pays for it seven times over.
The wise make themselves beloved by a few words, but the courtesies of fools are wasted.
A gift from a fool will do you no good, for in his eyes this one gift is equal to many.
He gives little, criticizes often, and opens his mouth like a town crier. He lends today and asks for it tomorrow; such a person is hateful.
A fool says, “I have no friends nor thanks for my generosity.” Those who eat his bread have a mocking tongue.
How many will ridicule him, and how often!
A slip on the floor is better than a slip of the tongue; in like manner the downfall of the wicked comes quickly.
A coarse person, an untimely story; the ignorant are always ready to offer it.
A proverb spoken by a fool is unwelcome, for he does not tell it at the proper time.
There is a person whose poverty prevents him from sinning, but when he takes his rest he has no regrets.
There is a person who is destroyed through shame, and ruined by foolish posturing.
There is one who promises a friend out of shame, and so makes an enemy needlessly.
A lie is a foul blot in a person, yet it is always on the lips of the ignorant.
A thief is better than an inveterate liar, yet both will suffer ruin.
A liar’s way leads to dishonor, and his shame remains ever with him.
The wise gain promotion with few words, the prudent please the great.
Those who work the land have abundant crops, and those who please the great are pardoned their faults.
Favors and gifts blind the eyes; like a muzzle over the mouth they silence reproofs.
Hidden wisdom and unseen treasure— what value has either?
Better are those who hide their folly than those who hide their wisdom.

Book of Wisdom of Yeshua Ben Sirach (Ben Sira)
#Sermon #Amen #Love #Christian #VictoryinJesus
New American Bible, Revised Edition. (Washington, DC: The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2011), Sir 1
Are you filled with Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge in all manner of workmanship, that Your focus is always on YHWH? .
Revelation From God
Author
The author of Sirach is self identified in Sirach 50:27 "Instruction in understanding and knowledge I have written in this book, Jesus son of Eleazar son of Sirach of Jerusalem, whose mind poured forth wisdom." But most know him by his common name as Ben Sira. His grandson transcribes the book from Hebrews to Greek.
Date
Sirach is believed to be oral tradition of more than 30 years that the Grandson son transcribes. The original work by Ben Sira is believed to be completed around 180BC and the Grandson completing the transcription around 132 BC.
Structure
Sirach is written in several literary forms including proverbs, hymns, prayers, and teaching narratives, (almost like a parable). We must keep these in mind when reading through Sirach.
We must also keep in mind that the text takes a gendered, heterosexual perspective regarding the acquisition and benefits of wisdom, which is feminine both in Hebrew (h.okma) and Greek (sophia). Sirach Sir 4:14 "Those who serve her minister to the Holy One; the Lord loves those who love her. Sir 4:15 Those who obey her will judge the nations, and all who listen to her will live secure." Both occupations described, the priest and judge, belong to men in second century Palestine. Wisdom is also the mother whom teaches her sons how to prosper (Clifford 326). We must keep in mind that Ben Sira views the Holy Spirit, (Wisdom) in a feminine manner, with all the attributes of a Female, Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Gal 5:23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Gal 5:24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Gal 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Rom 8:1-12 !!!! This is the goal of Ben Sira that we walk by the Spirit!!!!
