John 21: 15-25

This is our last week in the book of John and while going through this book we have seen great miracles take place. Such as the feeding of 5000, more like 15000

Jesus turning water into wine healing the sick, making the blind see, rebuking the religous leaders of that day for essentially missing the point. We also saw Jesus make 7 I am statements claiming to be God, Throughout this series in John we have got to see who Jesus is

Since about the last 4 chapters we have read about Jesus final week of his earthly ministry where we read about how he is the true vine, We saw him in serious turmoil while in the garden of Gethsemane saying if this cup could pass from me let it, But he willing still goes to the cross.

We saw the horrific events of the crucifixition we see , Then as Jamo talked about last week we see him appear to mary mardelene which is interesting because in this day a womans testimony had less credibility so why would the first person he appear too be a woman, I mean if this stuff was made up they surely would have made him appear to a man, .

Then as we jump into chapter 21 we see he reveals himself to his disciples , in kind of a simliar way in whuch he met them, they seemed to figure well our teacher is gone lets go back to what we know so they are out fishing. But these are good fishermen and they are out all night and catch nothing.

Then someone from the shore they dont know tells them to cast it out onto right side of the boat and there net becomes full of a fish which is how he met them in Luke 5 but John realizes its Jesus an says it is the Lord. Hes on shore having a fire

When peter hears its Jesus he jumps out of the boat and begins swimming toward Jesus. Jesus is on shore having a fire. and says bring some fish lets have breakfast

Imagine what this would have felt like for the disciples? I mean what going through thier head?

So after eating it seems Jesus pulls peter aside to talk and dose anyone remember where they left off? Peter foraked the Lord 3 times and now they are face to face and I love how Jesus answers lets read,

John 21:15–19 ESV

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.”

we ended with peter denying Jesus 3 times at a fire now we see him giving Peter the chance to say he loves him 3 times,

He asks him if he loves him, and Simon says Lord of course I love you !! and imagine how hard it would be too sit there and tell Jesus this after what took place back in chapter 18 and how many times have you done that?

Say Jesus I love you I would never leave you nor forsake you and then go out and comepletely disregard your Lord, Maybe you didnt verbally deny 3 times with your words but you did with your actions!! Through the way you talk with your friends, the things you watch, how you treat your loved ones.

So I pose the question to you all do you love Jesus? Belief and love are two differernt things here I mean it says even the demons belive, you can know a whole lot about Jesus and not know him personally, and if the anwer is no thats okay if you have a desire to you can talk too any of us

But those of who do love Jesus dose your life reflect that?

Then he tells him feed my church which is essentially him telling Peter he is called to be a Pastor, to watch the flock feed them take care of them. We know from the book of acts that Peter preaches the the first sermon after the HS comes down and 3000 people are saved in one sermon so we see Peter was restored back to his former self.
